Everywhere I have ever lived, and I have lived all over America, had thousands of people firing off illegal fireworks on July 1-7th and January 1. From a podunk town in the middle of WV, to Colorado, to Southern FL, to Vegas, to NC, to the middle of nowhere PA, to Podunk Ohio and Canton Ohio.

We have a lot of murder, a ton of bad drivers, a ton of drunk drivers, a ton of gangs but please lets divert police attention away from those things to focus on a mild inconvenience.
Mild inconvenience? I don't consider it mild when they started around 5 pm and shoot them off until after 2:30am mild. And it was constant, no breaks in between. Not only was I frazzled and got to experience what it is like in say Baghdad or similar, but my cats were so freaked out through it all. One of my inconsiderate neighbors behind us kept shooting them off and the building would shake. How fun.

What they should do is have them shoot them off in one spot, say a huge field AWAY from people's homes. Entice them there with a free BBQ or something. Make that the only spot they can shoot them off and let them do it as long as they want. And this way people can have some peace on that day, because just because a lot of you expect your freedom to do whatever you damn well please, others should have the freedom to not have it disrupt their lives and traumatize their pets.

Another reason to ban them--it's costing us tax dollars because people clearly can't control themselves:

It's NOT a problem, other than a stupid "ban" that doesn't work. Murder, rape, and robbery are "banned", and the vast majority of us agree that is a good thing, yet there are still murders, rapes, and robberies EVERY day.

So the idea of "banning" something a great majority (from the apparent mass disregard for an un-needed law, even in over regulated places like CA) does not agree with has only one outcome: utter, and complete failure. Even with the propaganda arm in full swing (the corrupt media), publicizing the few big operators who are caught, this will go on. It is our CULTURE, and the left should completely understand and be tolerant of our culture, even if it is uncomfortable for them.

Perhaps if those against this American tradition on the 4th took some time to look up what happened to the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and learned about where "the rockets red glare" came from, you would gain a little perspective of why it's a cultural celebration so deep that normally law abiding Americans light fireworks on the 4th, and actually gain some appreciation for that culture.

I applaud Metro for recognizing their approach to this non-problem, and hope they continue to worry about the more pressing and much more serious "bans" that they have to deal with.

wait so you have multiple officers at a drowning scene and illegal fireworks going off all around you are ok with them doing nothing?

Sounds like they were taking care of the higher priority item, yes. In case I wasn't clear enough, I don't see lighting fireworks (in itself) as an issue worth wasting Metro's time with, unless all of those other "bans" are permanently stopped, solved, and prosecuted.

Maybe this is something that could be dealt with more effectively on the HOA level?

I would guess most CC&Rs include a clause on fireworks.

Yes, including those blasted pedestrians that cross at crosswalks, slowing up your journey by a half-minute or so!

I'm so fed up with the aggressive, sociopathic, speedy-Gonzalez drivers in this city, I welcome anything to impede the flow of traffic!

Ban fireworks in this Type A type of city? Never!
