The very fact that you have to take over means the time to avoid the worst may be past. It's like pulling the pin on a grenade and handing them to someone saying here, you fix it.

We will have self driving cars. We will never have self flying cars. We've been promised flying cars for decades and we still don't have them. We're damn sure not going to skip to autonomous flying cars.

Airbus said it expects to begin testing its first prototype vehicle by the end of 2017.
Do you think Tesla has more credibility than Airbus?

I wouldn't be too sure about that. I've been hearing about these for awhile. They're basically a drone and those have been around for a few years.

This is a better video of it on Business Insider.

Also today they announced self-driving taxi's in Pittsburgh that people can summon with Uber. The service begins this month.

Are there any jobs that are not at risk of automation? Bus drivers, taxi drivers, UBER/LYFT drivers, pilots, even automation repair will be automated. Where is this headed job wise?

Yes, avoid scarebus if at all possible. They break way more than boeing. Plus, their auto controls confuse pilots in stress situations (read the cause of the air france crash out of south america..pilot couldn't figure out how to fly the plane manually, and caused the stall that killed everyone)

Plus, it's made in france..that's a good enough reason to avoid it, unless you're looking for a quick surrender...

So over the years there have been articles about what jobs come after automation takes over. Some of them have said that there will be new jobs created and people will adapt just as they always have. There will be a need for people to take care of and repair the machines. Someone will have to repair the machines that repair the machines even. There will be a need for engineers as well.

I've seen two themes play out. People will either evolve and become smarter and more skilled in order to handle such technology, or they will become lazier and more complacent as technology is doing more for them.

There has been a lot of material about it in Wired Magazine and elsewhere over the years if anyone wants to do a general Google search to read more about it. Some of the stuff I've read has been really lengthy and in depth on it and it is more than I can recall in a short description on a message board.
