I really dont see LV being able to pull all of this off before the NFL January vote. They arent ready for this. They may still build it down the road in hopes of luring a team, but this is a magic trick Criss Angel, Penn, and Teller combined couldnt pull off.

You'd be amazed at what this town can pull off.

I remember reading that they will fund both the stadium and convention center projects with the increased hotel tax or is it just one of the projects? I would love to have a NFL team in town but I know that a expanded/remodeled convention center means more to the livelihood of Las Vegas and will probably have a bigger impact on the community longterm.

When I was looking up fan made hockey ideas for the new Las Vegas NHL team I came across this picture for this article on the Raiders scouting Reno for training camps. Anyways, it's a cool picture of a guy in silver skulls.

The tourism committee already approved the convention center expansion funding. It goes to the Legislature when they meet next. The stadium funding is nowhere near completed.

It is possible that the stadium deal could come to an agreement and go to the Legislature and that the Legislature would choose the stadium but no convention center expansion but that seems highly unlikely. The convention center is a far more popular and viable project that is needed. It seems safe to say that it is either convention center by itself or in addition to stadium. A stadium approval w/o the convention center seems impossible.

Not only that but if the Legislature approves it then it seems like a sure thing to go to the ballot unless the deal looks drastically different than it does today. That vote wouldn't take place until November 2018.

And how many of these franchises shot up this list as soon as they built a new stadium? The majority. Anyone watch the Rams/Cowboys preseason game last weekend? They oversold the stadium...90,000 people attended that preseason game here in LA (yes, I live in LA). Parking outside the stadium was so hard to find, people were paying $100 to park in private lots once the stadium parking was full. The Rams hold training camp down at UC Irvine college....10,000 people attend each practice. The stadium in Vegas is going to cost the public money, there is no denying that, but in the long run it's going to generate more money for the city than it will cost the city right now. This is called an investment. You have to think long term. You, the individual, might not see that return, but your kids will. The NFL is by far the most popular sport in the country and only 32 cities have the honor of hosting a team. The Super Bowl is the single largest event each year in this country, the most watched event of the year, and the most bet on event of the year. If a state of the art stadium was built in Las Vegas it's a guarentee the NFL will give Vegas multiple Super Bowls in the future. Just think of the revenue your city will make off the NFL if they build a stadium, but only if an NFL team comes. It's a no-brainer.

Yes, spoken like a true, modern commiefornian: spend other peoples money today, and pretend it's an "investment", when historically public funded stadiums have been a very poor investment. (just ask the people of St. Louis what they think of their "investment") Nevadans pay plenty of taxes, fees, and other government money grabs, and don't need more, for ANY reason, including providing a luxury stadium for billionaires to make more money from.

If it's true that the value of a team goes up with a new stadium, then even if Mark Davis doesn't have the cash, he can use that assured equity to finance his own stadium, like the owner of the Rams is doing. That is a win-win-win for all. The raiders get their luxury stadium, and Nevadans don't pay any more taxes/guarantee any debt, and commiefornia big government spending stays in commiefornia where it belongs. And having an NFL team is an "honor" that is going to change the life of what 100 of the 2 million plus residents of the Las Vegas area, so a few more "wins", but certainly not as big of a deal as some would like others to believe.

Haha, yeah, you people think you pay so many taxes, yet Nevada openly advertises itself to all the surrounding states by saying, "Leave your state and come live in Nevada...we have some of the best tax benefits in the country". Hmm let's see...no franchise tax, no corporate tax, no personal income tax, no gross receipt tax, no inventory tax, no inheritance tax and EXTREAMLY low property tax. Don't worry, the $59 dollars in tax the government uses from your $20,000 a year bartending job/pool cleaner job/freeway construction worker job isn't going to hurt you.

The truth is you guys don't know what the hell being taxed is really like. Your state actively recruits people from the surrounding areas to come live in Nevada, especially all of us Californians you seem to hate...the same people that bring the real money to your state, because the existing citizens don't really contribute anything significant. If it wasn't for the tourism and all of us transplants bringing real money into Nevada, Las Vegas probably would have crashed and burned a long time ago. You NEED people to come into your state to spend money in order to survive, and an NFL team is a great ally in that effort. Further on that point, isn't the proposed public tax going to be taken from an increased HOTEL TAX? Meaning all of us tourists and transplants that come and stay in Nevada will actually be sporting the bill for YOUR stadium.
