They're really going for it to make it work. However, the final decision is in the hands of seven lawmakers.

Great follows for the hearing:

The big issue so far is that the Committee wants a public funding cap of 39% of total expenses related to the construction. The investors object to that. In other words, if the cost of the project is inflated in the proposal and it costs less to build, only the investors should be able to spend less money.

Another issue is that the developers want all of the revenue, not any profit sharing with the public. The Committee disagrees.

Assuming there is some compromise, do you think this deal gets done?

Carol Goodman wanted to get the vote done today, but I guess they were not aloud to for some reason. And sounds like Sisolak is in favor because of how much it will help UNLV.

Voting was not on the agenda so it would have not been legal. I disagree about Sisolak but it isn't out of the question. He was concerned about infrastructure costs that would be paid for by county outside of the stadium funding.

As for whether it will happen, Sands says they won't agree to 39% cap for public funding. They want any cost savings to go 100% to them. They also refuse to include the public in any of the revenue and demand $750 million. Those seem like deal breakers the Committee had no interest in caving on.

The Committee will come up with a plan. If Sands doesn't budge or doesn't gets its way, it dies. If Sands concedes, it probably passes the Committee and goes to the Legislature. The next hearing is a week from today at 8am.

S-E-R-I-O-U-S-L-Y? That's your response. The bus system here sucks, and yes I ride it. And two, I was talking more about a light rail proposal from the airport -> strip -> downtown. That to me is ESSENTIAL and not getting any talk time.

Too late. Never going to happen. The autonomous cab will come first. And it fits. Virtually perfect set up. Up and going by the early 2020s. Virtually certain. What we locals need to do is get together so it is not limited to the strip and we all get to ride it cheap. Require that the cost for a pick up be the same as on the strip and a small mileage charge. Could end up a great benefit. Nothing wrong with living off the tourists.

It appears Sept. 15th is D day. We want it and they want to come but the gap between the two needs to be closed and I say it's really close. We've budged but they need to budge some too it sounds like but they've already said they won't. Anyone familiar to negotiations knows to ignore ultimatums. It's not done until it's done and they're working on gettinerdone. If they're smart they'll budge and if we're smart we'll get em here and it will be mutually beneficial.

Who assumes biggest financial risk of a Las Vegas stadium? Panel tackles issue in latest meeting - Las Vegas Sun News

This is a balanced story from Jackie Valley of the Las Vegas Sun on the hearing. This was discussed on Twitter at the time:

Quote:
Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak, who sits on the committee, said he’d hate to see local entities on the hook for costly roadway improvements to accommodate stadium traffic. He pressed developers for an answer about when those costs might be known but didn’t get a clear-cut answer.
This was an odd part of the discussion. The land price is padded by $335 million because it includes "infrastructure" which apparently doesn't include transportation improvements in the area. Maybe this is why the investors won't agree to a 39% cap? I've been suspicious of what that $335 million would do.

Another important note from the article. The developers appear to have abandoned the special tax district idea.
