Time to leave the beautiful mountain home we retired to several years ago and get closer to our kids. Vegas or Phoenix area seem the best choices for our needs. I know Phoenix pretty well and Vegas mostly as a tourist. But LV is better positioned geographically for us.

What we'd prefer is to be able to have a couple acres where we can keep our privacy and our toys, yet not too far from basic conveniences like groceries, maybe a family doc, and an hour or less from LV, itself. Any suggestions will be welcomed. Housing prices we can handle would max out in low 300s, preferably below 300. Thanks.

Good luck with that. I think Pahrump maybe?

I know someone who bought such a property, but out in White Hills AZ. Nothing around there for 45 minutes when you get into Boulder City, but its about an hour into Vegas so it fit his needs better than Mesquite. He said he tried Pahrump, but while lots are much larger than Vegas, they aren't a couple of acres at a reasonable price. He then looked at land and building in a few places, but he said getting connected to the 21st century and paving enough road killed his budget. So probably going to find something, but may have to give up one or more things on the wish list.

Paved roads. Clean cars! It's been nearly 20 years since we could come out of a car wash and have a clean car by the time we got home and into the garage!

What about near Mesquite, or Logandale? Lots of open land Hospitals in Las Vegas, small one in Mesquite, shopping and Hospital in St. George (about 45 miles north of Mesquite and 120 miles from Las Vegas).

The homes in Mesquite seemed smallish, small lots, more like over 55 type neighborhoods, at least what was online. But I've heard we need to look there, and we will. We've sort of ruled out St. George as too far for our needs. But that's not in stone.

I used to play softball with a couple from Logandale. It's a nice little community. Gotta watch out for the flash floods though.

God forbid, but you could look at Dolan Springs. I have a buddy who used to live off of Pierce Ferry Rd. out there. He was in a Joshua Tree forest area. Don't count on Domino's delivering out in Dolan Springs.

I had to go to Sandy Valley the other day for business. Interesting little town, but might fit your needs. Seems to be plenty of acreage out there. Unsure of the costs, however. Most of the housing appeared to be trailers on land.

Are all the trailers and modulars because of the soil? How do homes with slab foundations do out there? Is that a real problem???
