I feel sorry for the folks who have to work there. You would think that at least one casino in Vegas would go non-smoking.

Secondhand smoke raises the stakes in America's casinos

I'm more concerned about the 2nd hand smoke forever coming over here from California.

Anyone check the Air Quality Indices 2 weeks ago Saturday? Particulate Matter readings of 300-400-500, and 100 is considered unhealthy! Could hardly see the mountains!

And all that fine silica that makes its way into the LV Valley with the winds here, now that worries me, constant exposure to that, going straight into one's lungs!

A superior air filtration system is all that's needed and not obsessing about the leaves, and looking more at the trees and forest!

We were in Reno then, also Incline Village for the week, and yes, the smoke from the fires was definitely noticeable. I spend a week in Las Vegas casinos every April, and have been pleased with how they have been able to address the smokers by installing good fans that suck it up, but also, noticed the last few years that very few people are still smoking in the casinos. Many of them are going outside, probably being thoughtful about others.

You would think there would be several lawsuits or class action lawsuits against the casinos for allowing smoking, especially given the litigious nature of this country

I've also noticed that there are fewer smokers in the casinos these days. That would make sense since there are fewer people smoking in general. More people seem to smoke while playing slots or at the bars, and not so much at the tables anymore.

It always seemed kind of silly to me to have no smoking sections in casinos. The ventilation systems are better, but smoke still drifts all over the place.

New????? The article is from 2011.

There was a non-smoking casino here. Closed due to lack of business.

Are there employees "forced" to work in a smoke filled casino? After living here about eleven years, I avoid visiting casinos with all the smoke. Last year at CES, spent four days at The Venetian Suites tower where those larger room suites host the high end audio companies showing their gear.

My eyes after that were in awful shape, from the smoke and "Uncle Sheldon's" pumped in perfume.

When I first moved here, the small gaming areas in supermarkets and drugstores allowed those at the slot machines to smoke. That has changed thankfully.

Back in the 1980's when I first entered the military, a large percentage of the personnel smoked inside the buildings, at their desks and everywhere else. It was awful. Thankfully, those days are over and the smokers have to do it outside.

I am a firm believer that adults have the right to smoke as much as they please. Just don't do it around the rest of us.

It seems that one of the casinos in Laughlin had a non smoking area on the casino floor. But have not been there in years.

Good luck! I can't think of any attorney that would do stupid and try a lawsuit like that, given there's still no agreement, by scientific researchers, that 2nd hand smoke is detrimental to other's health.

You know how it goes with scientists, who can be more corrupt than politicians, one research project shows this, another shows that, and the arguments go on ad infinitum!

Went to a casino at Niagara Falls that had two floors. Bottom floor was for non-smokers. Top floor for smokers.

While playing Blackjack downstairs someone sat down and lit a cigarette. The dealer stopped her dealing and told them to put it out or go upstairs with it. When he balked she yelled, "Security!" He left.

That was the smartest casino operation I have ever seen.

Scientist or no anyone that claims second hand smoke isn't harmful is either and idiot, a smoker, or both.
