Ok. That guy. We used to hide the RX pads when he came in. And it didn't change the landscape. Didn't change a thing unless you worked at Binions.

What this town lacks in natural color, it certainly makes up for with colorful history and characters. Oddly the same issues existed then that exist now...lousy schools, poor roads with constant construction, marginal health care and "explosive" growth...so much for that !

I am kinda surprised at your response. Allow me to explain: The subject was quite well off and didn't really need to steal anything. The drug of choice was not exactly found on the shelf at the local CVS..and he was extremely well "connected"....in many circles including the medical community. His paramour was on a 10k a month allowance, and driving a new Mercedes with a sticker close to 100k....my point being....he had access to whatever he so chose...without needing to beg, borrow, or steal.

Referencing the landscape change, you would have to look back to the 60's and 70's when the "Shoe" was one of the few remaining family owned, no limit local joints. Once the patriarch passed, and even thou the future of the "Shoe" was pretty much determined....that event sent a subtle message that the end of the end was for sure gonna happen.

You didn't have to be an employee...the patriarch of that family was a mover and shaker that touched many lives....it was the end of an Era.....

Benny was a legend. Jack was a hot mess ( though a very polite man ) who had a propensity for drug abuse, including prescription meds. To me, he was just another dead patient.

I'm not sure to this day if they killed him, or just stole his stuff after his unfortunate exit. He had serious problems. I'm not going to say anything else on the subject.

I actually didn't post this to open a can of worms. My thought was triggered by another thread concerning a young kid coming to town with 1200 bucks and a dream. We all (I think) gave him pretty sound advice, to think twice. I was that kid....many, many years ago...however I did make that journey, and then, after accidently meeting an old cowboy, with a twinkle in his eye, asking that kid "what's yer story stranger" the rest was history. When folks ask me what kept me here all these years I have one simple answer..."a pocket full of quarters, a 25 cent Heineken, and a guy named Benny". He was indeed a legend ! Back in the day....things like that happened...not so much anymore !
