Gee, thanks Amazon. What a wonderful, caring company.

First off, the "statutory requirement" is a misnomer. In order to qualify for a sales tax abatement, Amazon would need to meet 2 out of 3 requirements: Create 50 new jobs (Amazon said it will create 1000), invest $1 million in capital (Amazon said it will invest $18 million), and meet or beat the average Nevada wage for all jobs. So right off the bat, Amazon qualifies.

The current average wage for a warehouse manager is around $75k, with warehouse workers around $27k. Amazon's proposed average wage is right in line with what is currently being paid to these types of employees. Are they skilled, high-paying jobs? No, not for the most part (unless you get to be a Robot Tech - I think that would be awesome). But neither are they burger-flipper wages. Amazon wasn't offering to build a programming mecca, just a warehouse. Reno's fulfillment center employ around 600 full-time positions. Indeed and Glassdoor both have tons of glowing reviews about working for Amazon, including favorable benefits and worker conditions.

Vegas doesn't have the infrastructure they want.

In point of fact, I'm surprised they're putting it in the US at all. They're a global company, and they already have a US headquarters. If I were them, I'd put it in Singapore. Most of the world's growth is now in Asia.
