LV native and always refer to it as Las Vegas, never Vegas. Couldn't say why.

Or how about all the people who don't think New Mexico is a state?

Most Americans aren't so good with geography.

The city is Las Vegas. I would have preferred the proper city name be part of the name.

But what rankled was Foley saying he named it this as a TRIBUTE to the locals, who call it Vegas, and only out of towners say Las Vegas. Reminds me of Trump telling the state we pronounce our own state incorrectly.

Call it what he wants, it's his franchise, but don't pretend it was some big nod to the locals to call it that.

How about "lost wages"? That's a fairly common nickname often used by non-locals...

I'm guessing for the same reason people know Nike Jordan, Adidas.
a lot of it has to do with marketing and name brand recognition.
same thing with locations.people are convinced they're better with no proof and are willing to pay a premium for that illusion in many cases. I think that's hysterical. we wouldn't want her walking up here by the Aliante. At least not without her a.k.

The logo on your sneakers doesn't make you run any faster... Just ask Katt Williams.

First thing I usually do in NM Mag. is skip the the last page and read, "One of Our Fifty is Missing". Being originally from West Virginia, when talking to other diaspora from there, the subject sooner later gets around to all the ID 10 Ts who don't know that it's a state. Tell them you're from West Virginia, and they will probably ask you if you're from Richmond. I ask someone the other day if New, by God, Mexico would work like West, by God, Virginia does.

Now and then I use It's Vegas Baby, or Lost Wages, in a context where I know it will bring a grin.
