Hi all!
My husband and I are looking to move to Las Vegas. We love the outdoors and the weather there. Compared to the 300 days a year of heat and humidity here we would gladly put up with the 3-4 months of intense dry heat there...lol
So what we need to know is ...

Jobs- We are both Pharmacy techs. Are there any mail order pharmacies in or around town? What do jobs pay there for a Pharmacy tech?

Utilities-Here in Orlando our average electric bill is about $120 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment (680sf). What is the average in LV for the same size space? We do not pay for water here in Orlando in an apartment rental but i do hear you do in LV. How much would this be? Cable...we stream everything so we would just need internet service. How much for that service?

Rent- We really like the Summerlin area. What are the going rates for a 1bd/1bth? Here in Orlando rents are about 800+ for a 1bd.

Food- We are more of eat in people so i cook at home. We do not eat out a whole lot. We roughly spend about $100-130 a week on groceries. Would we be looking at the same there?

Entertainment- We are not gambling people, we might catch a show here and there so this is not something to budget for as it is not of importance.

That is all i can think to ask at this time. If there is anything else you feel we should know please share. Thank you

When people say they like the Summerlin area, I'm always curious as to what aspects. Particularly with renters because Summerlin is not very apartment friendly. Are people saying they like the freeway access, the landscaping, the mountain views, the demographics? Also which part of Summerlin?

A lot of people say Summerlin when they simply mean the western side of LV, west of Rainbow.

Hey there I'm from Orlando as well (Hunter's Creek on the south side of Orange County) You can find one bedroom apartments on the older side of Summerlin for about $650-$800 a month depending on the location. The further west you go, the more expensive it will be (think 4 digit rent for a 1 bedroom) I know that along Rock Springs Drive between Washington and Lake Mead Blvd there are some decent affordable apartments that could be counted as part of Summerlin (though the actual boundary of whats Summerlin and whats not is debatable)

Another area you may want to check out is Centennial Hills, I know a great apartment complex called Sky Pointe Landing, it feels like "Florida" very green and lots of big trees throughout the complex. Rent there starts at $800 even. Its close to the highway (btw throw your SunPass away when you move, tolls dont exist out here) Tons of shopping and restaurants on Centennial Center Blvd (WalMart, Sams Club, Home Depot, Bj's Brewhouse, etc) The only drawback to Centennial Hills is that its far from the strip, but if you want nice and quiet with low crime thats a great place to start

Feel free to DM me and best of luck and happy new year to you?

Summerlin = 89134, 89135, 89138, 89144, and 89145 west of Rampart.

If you're south of Charleston and east of Hualapai, you're not in Summerlin.

If you're east of Rampart you're not in Summerlin.

If you're north of Cheyenne, you're not in Summerlin.

Freeways are cool because 215 isn't nearly as congested here as it is in Henderson, and you also have the Summerlin Parkway to take you downtown.

Families like the area. It's safe. It has some of the best schools in the city. Meadows is here if you have an unlimited budget. Faith Lutheran is here. Bishop Gorman is on the south end. Even if you stay public, you have the best CTA here (West Tech) and CSNHS West. There's even charter school options (Doral Academy).

The locals casino is arguably the best one in the city (Red Rock). There's also a Costco here. If you're a gym person, you have access to LifeTime Athletic which is by far the best facility in the valley. You also have a 24 Hour Fitness Super Sport here.

There's so many recreation opportunities available here that aren't in other parts of the city. You're a 30 minute bike ride (if you're slow) to Red Rock Canyon, the best outdoor recreation area in the city.

Golf? There's beautiful (and expensive) golf courses. TPC Las Vegas, Badlands, TPC Summerlin, Red Rock Country Club, Bear's Best, Highland Falls, Palm Valley.

Swim? There's an indoor lap swimming pool at Veteran's Leisure Center, and several outdoor pools at parks.

Tennis? Darling Tennis center is right outside the area, not to mention the 8 courts at Palo Verde, 5 courts at the Arbors Park, 2 at The Hills Park,

Soccer? Kellogg Zaher Soccer Complex is right outside the area. There's indoor soccer fields as well. Summerlin Centre Park has two outdoor grass fields.

Hockey? New Golden Knights hockey practice facility being built downtown. Las Vegas Ice Center is a short trip outside the community.

Oh, and the 51's are building a new stadium here... eventually... maybe.

No it's not perfect. There's no subdivision that isn't in an HOA. It's cookie cutter land with very little privacy. Lots of entitled Starbucks-sipping women driving around in SUV's. Almost all families and retirees. Heavy Mormon influence. Further from the strip and airport than Henderson, which features many of the same amenities.

Check out BriovaRx in Spring Valley. While in the area check out the brand new, SFR/apts/condos/lofts a stone throw away from Briova Rx.

BriovaRx is located at the UNLV/Harry Reid Research and Technology Park.

Not qute right. You missed the Pueblo which is Summerlin. And actually has two interesting things. The least expensive places truly in Summerlin and a couple of quite nice tracts that are not well known. And a condo complex that at least ties for the best in Summerlin.

For those who don't know the Pueblo at Summerlin lies between Lake Mead Blvd and Vegas Drive and east of Rampart to Buffalo. Has Red Hills Condos at the SW corner and Bella Vista at the NE corner. Bella Vista is one of the very few really walk-able neighborhoods in Law Vegas. A couple of very nice tracts along the Raven which is also a Summerlin Trail.

The bad news is that unlike the west of Rampart Summerlin it is zoned for Cimarron Memorial High School. I would not send a kid there. There are however other high school options and the schools are pretty good to that point.

Check Green Valley, Anthem and Seven Hills in Henderson, lots of apartments and offer great shopping and dinning experience and above all closer to the strip and airport. Zip codes, 89074, 89014, 89052, 89044. The most important thing you avoid I-15 and US95 the very congested freeways.
