relative of mine is early 90s and in early stages of dementia. otherwise good health besides the beetus. they need assisted living, and eventually EOL/hospice

Probably posted in the wrong forum.

The first thing your friend needs to do is see a social worker. They can do this for free at Catholic Charities and probably other places as well. Start collecting bills and proof of assets/income. And medical records.

Not the wrong forum. They're not interested in moving.

Already seen social worker and bankruptcy lawyer. Bringing in a little less than $3k a month. No assets.

I have not heard of anything your friend can afford on his own. The social worker will have to place him.

Social worker will need to work with them on getting medicaid, that's the federal program which will pay for a nursing home once it is deemed medically necessary and a bed spot becomes available at a place which accepts medicaid (they are not required to).

The best nursing home deals are ones where the patient can pay on their own for a couple years and once their money runs out the place will accept medicaid payments going forward. Getting in from day one to a medicaid only facility is really getting a bottom of the barrel place.

May not be able to qualify that is WAY over the income guidelines for a single person.
Actually it's about double the amount they allow.

If you find something let us know here on the board please.

Wishing you good luck I have been there with my folks.

I was thinking the same thing. I know some people who have Medicaid and their income is less than half what the OP talked about.

Looks this this place has a base rate of $1800 a month, but that only includes room and board. They'll add on more fees depending on how much care the resident needs. Good luck to ya.
