The traffic in Vegas is similar to the traffic in LA in 1971.

Sorry - No. I lived there in 71. The 405 was a disaster even back then...you could make it reasonably quickly to the Harbor and then all hell broke loose. It was a little better in the mid 60s but not a whole lot. We are no where near that level.

Sure, there were more cars in LA in 1971, but I sure don't remember getting stuck in traffic often either, and I drove from Long Beach to downtown and Wilshire on a regular basis.

As for LV traffic today, I sometimes get stuck in traffic on the 215 and 15.

The one difference that I noticed is that drivers today are driving faster than they did in 1971.

The cars are faster than they were in 1971, and the designer prescriptions we have now weren't available then either.

Sure, sport cars have always been fast but the typical sedan I think were slower. Probably the biggest factor is the driver. The handling, tires, and motors allow current drivers to drive faster.

Present cars on average are faster than the average car in 1971. Manufacturers have pushed the limits of engine efficiency and tried to reduce weight with composite materials. The weight reduction is not as noticeable because they continue engineering new safety features, but in general are cars are lighter with more efficient engines and much safer.

in the 70s cars, if you need 85, the car would shake as if it were ready to fall apart... today, 120 is nothing... and the normal cars are definitely faster than the 70s... example camaro vs camaro
