So House Hunters just did an episode with a local couple who bought a farmhouse on land that looked very un-deserty. Does anyone know where that and the other two properties they showed in the episode are located? I'd love to know. If I were not familiar with Vegas it would certainly give me the wrong impression. Looked more like rural Northern Arizona or something.

Say more. House Hunters does not have a good index or way to search so we would need a better clue. There are lots of places like Mount Charleston which is an utterly different high altitude forest climate with rain and snow. There are lots of big places around town that show no desert indicators.

What channel is it on? Maybe we can find it On Demand. I'd be curious too. Are you sure it wasn't in Las Vegas New Mexico?

Parts of NLV and the extreme Northwest offer areas that don't look like LV at all. Farm Rd is a place to start. Also near Tule Springs. It's not unusual for me to hear a rooster or a peacock where I currently live and I'm not that far north.

That is simply the RNP (Rural Network Preserve). Lone Mountain is the biggest and extends out to at least the edge of NLV. There are something like 20 square miles in the NW. There are other pieces in the NW, SW, the far East and Henderson. There is even a piece along 215 between Eastern and Pecos. The City of LV and Henderson have some similar zoning though not the same.

The style varies from old NV ranch to 70s geo domes to current McMansions. Some of the late 80s/90s tracts go to grass and trees. Later tend to be xeriscaped.

Quite a few horse zoned areas in Vegas, but probably Northwest if I had to guess.
