*laughs* ...nope! 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM for sales AND CLOSED Sundays!

Their service department closes even earlier --5:00 PM!

There are car dealerships in the Seattle area with better hours than that! Even some dealership's service departments are open all night there and they are located far from the atmosphere of the Las Vegas Strip!

Now show me a dealership where I can go in and buy a new Maserati or even a Ford or Toyota at 3:00 AM and that'll be reson for me to say "now this is a city that never sleeps!"

I told you. It is by statute and an industry conspiracy. It actually takes four or five statutes gto make it work. One in each city.

And the standard gig is if anyone gets it lifted then the others will get them all lifted and it becomes a 7 day industry.

You would have no problem buying a Ferrari on Sunday if you know your way around. Any concierge of a class hotel. You can also get a Doctor or a hair cut or a massage or what have you when you want it including 3AM...

I know you TOLD me.

My point is: You still can't walk into a car dealership, a bank, a beauty salon, etc. at 3:00 in the morning and expect to do business. Or a car dealership on Sunday ...statutes or not; that's not the point.

A concierge in New York city or Los Angeles could probably arrange those services in the middle of the night too.

The point is, Las Vegas isn't that much different than any other major city. As was already said, the strip allows one to gamble, drink and eat 24 hours a day but otherwise, it's pretty close to the same as any other city finding businesses doing business or not doing business in the middle of the night.

Pleeeese...my opening line in this conversations was:

"To some degree the 24 hour bit was always a put on."

I don't believe I have implied that a full set of municipal services are available 24 and 7. I would also point out that most people are looking for a much more limited set of items at 3AM. As we both agree, you can gamble, drink, eat, get entertained, and screwed in Las Vegas quite easily. What more is there? One can, I suppose do the same most places...but with somewhat more difficulty. I suspect fulfilling most of the list at 3AM is possible in Seattle but it would be much more complicated than in Vegas.

Exactly! Most people are not aware of it though, they buy into the 24 hour town misconception. Beyond gambling you can do the same types of things in the middle of the night in Vegas as you can in any other larger city. Even the shows on the strip are closed in the middle of the night, it's not like you can go see a Cirque show at 3 a.m. And when it comes to gambling, other cities that have gambling probably have it all night long too. But there's nothing special about going grocery shopping or to a pharmacy in the middle of the night, all larger cities offer that stuff.

There is a very large Mormon influence in Las Vegas, its bigger than the Catholic influence.

Las Vegas is alive in that you can socialize, meet people, have fun in a public place, ... yes gambling is the focal point of the 24/7 here, but its your choice if you choose to limit yourself to those activities. I have a local pub (one of hundreds in vegas) I can go into 24/7 and chat sports, argue catholic or morman population, or grumble about politics with everyone in the joint, and laugh my ass all night long without one sip of alcohol or dropping even a quarter on gambling....the fun is here if you want it....to me having fun is what being alive is all about.

Well thankfully this isn't the fastest growing state in the country anymore. We certainly don't need more people. We don't need another wal-mart or casino. I think the only people who encourage growth are people who are lining their wallets. How does 100 cars added to our highway benefit the common person? Increased growth adds traffic congestion (rage and fatalities), increased criminal element (is there a day in which someone isn't murdered?), increase the homeless and beggars, depleting our resources such as water (we are not in a drought) and making it hotter. Every summer it gets hotter especially at night because all the concrete makes it harder to cool off. Won't be long before it fails to get below 100 at night. And yes more expensive. Give me a town like Mayberry NC (the Andy Griffith Show) any day.

If Nevada wants to be the fastest growing state then they should build a city in the center part of the state. Just because one lives or lived here, you don't have to speak fondly of it.

Ahhh Rodney..was it thus so simple...Unfortunately about 30% of us regular folk make our living from the growth. No more growth huge unemployment, bottom drops out of housing, salaries overall drop sharply, and a large exodus to elsewhere starts. Traffic does get better but that is about it.

Sure we need another Casino...keeps the thirty percent of us payed. And Walmart and new suburbs.

Now maybe we could begin a 10 or 20 year slow down... say in 20 years we only replace stuff...no new growth...maybe 3.5 million...and holding nicely there.

But for now we are on the back of the lion. If he can stop he will turn around and eat us...and we don't want that.
