This happens on the strip just as often. Especially the pot and hookers.

Not sure when you were to L.A. last, but L.A. is changing at a rapid pace, like never before, and with the defeat of Measure S (to stop the Manhattanization of L.A.), the cranes will continue to go up, here and there, even Hollywood.

Haven't been to Hollywood in years, but with all the new development in Hollywood, I fear that those cheap motels rooms I used to stay in are no longer cheap.

I was always taught that America is Home of The Brave, and that no freedom comes to you without taking some kind of risk.

So if you'll have more piece of mind in Hollywood, then Hollywood it shall be.

I will say that Vegas has a few other attractions besides the casinos. One of the best hikes I ever did was Red Rock Canyon (but go in early morning). The Clark County Museum is fun if you are into history. One of the best things going there is Dig This, an expensive but really fun adventure that I haven't seen anywhere else. Then there is the VooDoo zip line at the Rio, and the Fremont Street Experience. Still, a lot more to do in the L.A. area, but more expensive, and takes more time there. You should really plan on doing both places in the future.

Vegas is defintely a lot cheaper vacation spot than LA. I just moved from LA in February and lived there for two years and half. Everything seems to cost an arm and leg there. I couldn't wait to get back to Vegas.

Do you gamble?

Be careful with Tij's versions of reality. We lived for decades in the LA area. Actually in the north edge of OC and worked in El Segundo. We still visit periodically. We generally drive to LA and then often use Lyft or Uber to get around in the city. We pick a hotel near where we want to be and leave our car there.

Public transit does work in LA but only if you are a hobbyist or deliberate locate yourself so as to have easy access to the desired routes. Otherwise it is a disaster. This is a huge sprawling city...the ultimate automobile metropolis. And practically public transit does not work. That is reflected by the actual usage of the system. Unless riding the system is an end in itself don't do it.

I would also suggest treating it as three or four different cities. ie Go to Disneyland on one trip, Hollywood on another, West LA on another. You can jump abound if you wish but then you must have a car.
