So, are you guys watching Flip or Flop Vegas on HGTV? I started watching it to see if they were fixing up houses in really undesirable neighborhoods to sell to out of state buyers or something, but that's usually not the case. I like the show, though I don't always care for Aubrey's color choices.

I've been watching it and like the show. It seems to be a bit more realistic in what they spend and how much they make than some of the other flipping shows. They also seem to be a nice people, unlike that pompous ass Scott Yancey that was on the old Flipping Vegas program.

Her designs seem to look nice, but I do think she puts in too much furniture and the places always look crowded. I'm also not crazy about her color schemes and her choices are really out there sometimes.

Sort of a related question.
Did the "flipping shows" die out or go dormant during the great recession?

I don't watch much television.

i've tried watching it a few times & i just can't get into it. her pattern choices are often dizzy-ing & that purple/black condo monstrosity was hideous!

I think "Flipping Vegas" (the Yancy show), popped up in that time frame.

The original "Flip or Flop" (the El Moussas) struck me as more realistic and businesslike than some of the other flipping shows (thinking about "Flipping Vegas" specifically, who's numbers never seemed real.) I has seen where Tarak El Moussa was posting on some real estate forums.

BTW, I attends some real estate meetups in NYC. The organizer has real estate investors and other related professionals present. One flipper couple presented, and said they were approached by TV producers about doing a show. When they discussed what the actual profit numbers involved were, the producers said they'd have to pump them up (ie fake them) to make the profit more dramatic. So I take everything I see on this shows with a HUUUUUGGGGGEEEEE grain of salt.

This.

The first couple episodes of 'Flipping Vegas' were fun, then it became obvious it was a trumped-up formula to get ratings.
1) Scott finds a property with possibilities where he can make a little $$ but only if they do everything right
2) Scott blows up at contractors for not doing work/overcharging/etc
3) Amie goes being Scott's back & spends too much on design/extras
4) They scramble at the last minute & somehow are ready for the open house
5) House is listed higher than they said they could at start of show & magically gets a first day offer (often over list)
6) All of a sudden that 'razor thin' profit margin becomes a big number
7) Mysteriously, you don't see carrying costs or commission figured into the profit margin

Reality TV is anything but. The people I know who have been involved with it all say they're coached on what to say & do, all for the benefit of making it more dramatic.

As for "Flip or Flop", it seems like one of the more sane approaches. I've like the couple episodes I've seen so far. That said, I can see Aubrey's design choices wearing on me over time. In the grand scheme of things, I'd rather see something like this than "Flipping Vegas".

Some elements of that condo were okay, but a purple sink? Really, Aubrey?

Also, based on it being on Las Vegas Blvd and walking distance to a casino, that's going to be a bad neighborhood.

Wife and I actually toured one of their condos:
https://www.redfin.com/NV/Las-Vegas/.../home/29184365

Missing door thresholds, bad paint jobs/touchups, awkward bedroom light fixture placement, the laundry room door does not close, the water pipes make a LOUD knock in the wall when you start/stop them. It looks MUCH better on TV than in person. This one went through 2 price drops before it went contingent.

They seem to do everything un-permitted and without HOA permissions.
