Has anyone had experience getting renter's insurance if they are renting PART of a house? My friends are renting the upstairs of a house only (shared living room and kitchen downstairs) from a person who is renting the entire house from the owner. They also have a storage unit where they are paying $10 mandatory insurance. I told them to get renter's insurance and it will cover the storage unit too but then realized that I only had renter's insurance for apartments. Would renter's insurance cover renting space in a house? Seems like this would come up a lot in Vegas. Anyone have experience with this?

Also, any cheap renter's insurance companies in Vegas anyone can recommend?

Best bet would be ask the insurance company. You might have to just cover the whole house.

It's called different things in different places. It's really just personal property insurance. You are insuring your personal property. It's up to you how much you want to cover, but its not like it cover the 1st floor, but not the 2nd floor. It just covers your stuff, with whatever option you want and are willing to pay for.

I had it at my last house, where the HOA dues actually covered the hazard insurance for the property, I just had to carry the personal property insurance for my belongings.

Sometimes, it take a minute to explain what you are looking for....but usually saying "renter's insurance" is enough.
