I'm more interested in dew point. It was very high yesterday and my swamp cooler was therefore very swampy

My outdoor thermometer in the shade also registers a couple degrees cooler than the nearest weather station

Dew Point right now appears to be around 25F. That should give pretty good cooling.

We are still waiting on a part so running with one unit. Back half of house is up to 85.

It's the same laws of physics which cause a PC to crash just before clicking on "save" on that senior honors thesis.

Here's an example of a thermometer reading 80F even though the air temperature is below freezing. Are you going to go out in shorts because the thermometer reads 80F?

I'd readily go snow skiing in shorts and a T-shirt. Lots of women go skiing in bikini tops in that weather.

At 3:00PM it is 112. That looks like it. The chart is flattening.

Back in PA my husband would have the AC running from April until October at about 66 degrees 24/7. Over the last couple of days, we had the patio doors open until about 4:00 in the afternoon when the sun would start hitting the apartment. That amazes me!

Yes if you are in the sun it is hot as blazes but step into the shade and it's actually nice!
Hmm lets see:

Miami FL Currently 85F, Reel Feel 93F
Las Vegas NV Currently 112F, Reel Feel 114F

You may hate humidity, but you'd be hard pressed to tell us 80s with humidity is worse than 112 degrees without it.

Nope - McCarran is showing 112.4 - feels like 107.

Humidity is under 10%

Edit Just looked at it again and now says 113 feels like 113. So Willy may be right. Have no idea why it is bouncing around .

Edit again. Looked it up on the offical aviation weather page and ran the calcualtion 113 26 and feels like 104.

Soomebody does not know what they are doing.

Miami average high for this date is 90. RH 65% feels like 103

Reel Feel is an Accuweather thing, its not just based on the dewpoint but takes the intensity of the sun and the wind into consideration. Cause lets face it if its 113 in the afternoon in Las Vegas and no wind its pretty damn miserable.

Anyways I just gotta laugh at the nonsense posts about the weather you see here every year, they have no basis in fact. 110F and above is damn hot and miserable no matter how dry it is. Trying to sugar coat it and say well back east it was worst is just making things up. On the absolute worst day of the summer it may be about what a normal summer day is in Vegas, but whatever. If you didn't come from Miami, NOLA, Houston, something like that, a bad day back East just isn't as bad as you try to pretend it is.

Actually I grew up in one of those hot and humid places. I will take 110 at 6% to 90 at 65% anytime.

I will agree that both are miserable - I just think dry miserable is better than wet miserable.

Much of Miami is actually OK in that it generally gets an ocean breeze. But then again ever been in Hawai when the Trades stop?
