The replies to this topic are ridiculous.

Crime happens everywhere, and criminals don't go to the poor neighborhoods to steal stuff.

Living your life in fear is a paranoid waste of time. Should you leave your doors unlocked, no. Should you use common sense, yes.

You do not need to be a navy seal to protect yourself effectively with a firearm, and the purpose of a gun is not to stop property crime. Let em take your stuff, it is replaceable. The gun is to protect your life and your family. Call the police, hide, and shoot to kill if necessary.

In my mind, the further you are from commercial areas where crack heads congregate the better. This necessitates a car, and serious junkies already sold their car for dope.

Most property crimes are committed by local teenagers. Several cars on my inlaws street have had the windows smashed to steal visible stuff like wine on xmas eve. Doubt that some scumbag drove all the way out to summerlin to commit that crime.

True to a fair extent. But there are some fairly easy things to do that make you home more difficult and less desirable to try and rob. It's fairly well known what these are.

The problem not discussed here is, if you come home and the burglars are there. How can you prevent a killing?
Running away without confronting them and leaving them to take your stuff?

Absolutely that is exactly what you do! Run away and let them take your stuff. You can call police and be a good witness. If you arrive and they are inside they already have the drop on you. Going toe to toe with a burglar is exactly how victims get killed.

A prime example would be people who fight with car jackers and either get shot or run over during a struggle. That's what insurance is for. Let them take your car you can get another one.

Another example is a homeowner catching a car thief in the act and shooting them even though the victim is not in danger. If you are out of the way and not about to be run over or shot you don't get to kill the suspect for just taking your property.

Four young men with hoodies up would provoke an immediate call to the police in virtually any neighborhood in LV. And the police would respond.

In fact it is mostly a central city problem as these young men know perfectly well that a group leaning against a wall or even passing by with hoods up would virtually guarantee a police response outside of some center city neighborhoods.

Thanks. I read that often metro takes hours to come after being called for an emergency as they are so busy, is this true? Will the sales tax increase to hire additional 300 police men improve the situation in the years to come?
