And this doesn't include the issues with squatters, home invasions, other crimes. "Out of control" compared to recent years. No it's not everywhere within city limits or the Valley and no I'm not including Henderson.

That's my highly un-educated guess as well.

That's an interesting anecdote for sure.

Yeah, I read that article this morning too.

"During the same period in 2016, there were 107 homicides valleywide. The year ended with 222 homicides."

That's 107 & 222 more than there should have been, of course. Perhaps I missed it when I skimmed the article, but I didn't see how many of those were temporary visitors vs. full-time residents.

Here's another way to look at it. As of the 2010 Census, the Las Vegas–Henderson–Paradise, NV Metropolitan Statistical Area had a population of about 1.951 Million people. All but 222 of those people were *not* homicide victims last year (OK, the data are not apples-to-apples -- but you get the picture.)

We have about 40 Million visitors each year for recreation & business conferences -- how many were killed?

Personally, I'm more concerned with petty theft -- the Amazon packages disappearing from the front door.

Regardless, I just don't see a crime wave. I see an article in the newspaper.

Do you personally feel unsafe living in Las Vegas? Do most residents feel generally safe/unsafe?

I was spending some winters in Desert Shores and felt VERY SAFE. However, after making my research online, I found out that so many locals consider Vegas unsafe. I have seen nothing of concern during extended time in Vegas. So I am utterly confused why I did not notice any crime or even had any concerns while this form and newspapers are advertising a crime wave...

Like this study that shows US is an Oligarchy?

https://www.cambridge.org/core/journ...D4893B382B992B

The existence of party dues that exceed paychecks?

The existence of lobbying?

Are you really denying all these things, Sporty?

On to Americans working hard.

Americans Work More Than Anyone - ABC News

Americans gave up half of their vacation days last year - May. 24, 2017

Business failures. 66% of American businesses succeed which means 34% do not.

Third world status.

53% of the country makes less than 15 an hour.
America has the LARGEST population of prisoners in the world.
America has more police shootings than any other country.
America has one of the most expensive healthcare systems in the world.
Americans have little to no savings.
Most new jobs created are minimum wage.
America ranks poorly in education.
American infrastructure is collapsing, many times literally.

Our laws are becoming more oppressive.
Anti-protest trespass bill takes away our 1st amendment right to peacefully assemble.
Warrant-less wiretaps and searches violate our 4th amendment rights.
Wrongful arrests and convictions are rampant.
We had/have judges selling kids into the prison system.
Judges Plead Guilty in Scheme to Jail Youths for Profit - The New York Times

America already is a third world country, we just can't see it yet. The sheen from our glory days is quite blinding.
Corporations run our government.
This is why pizza sauce is a vegetable, milk is pushed in schools, sugar is pumped into our kids like it's oxygen.
Companies lobby our government and the government does their bidding.

We pay congressmen roughly 74,000 a year.
Lobbyists pay our congressmen MILLIONS. Who do you think they're working for?
We the people have a cap on what we can donate to a politician running for office.
Superpacs have no such cap which means companies can donate millions to politicians every election cycle.
There are private superpacs that don't even have to disclose who gave how much.

Do you seriously think politicians have our best interests at heart?
Can you even name something a politician has done that actually benefits Americans as a whole? I damn sure can't.
I can name a whole bunch of laws that help the wealthy and corporations though.

Ending net Neutrality is in the works. Who does that help? Not we the people.
TPP who would that help? Not we the people.
Capital gains have a lower tax rate. Does that help the average American or the wealthy? The wealthy.
Tax rates in general? How many corporations pay 0 dollars in tax while your average American is taxed 30%
Billionaires get away with 13 and 14% tax while a guy making the median wage pays 25%

I could go on and on and on but I have a job I have to go do to pay to survive.

edit:
As far as sources go, I struggle to find any that I actually trust. A lot of the stuff I know I discovered looking at .gov sites reading the actual laws as they're passed. I don't have time to look them up right now, but they are there.

The short answer is I feel very safe in Las Vegas. However, I grew up on the wrong side of the railroad tracks, and I have some street smarts. I even survived being shot at in the remote tribal areas of Waziristan, the south side of Chicago, and Harlem & Morningside Heights.

EA, I respect your point of view, and I always learn from your perspective. I suspect that answering you would better be discussed in one of the other forums here -- perhaps Great Debates or perhaps Politics.

When we're talking about COL, what we're really talking about is housing prices. Gas/clothing/electronics/cars, these are all commodities that are roughly the same across all of America, save for Alaska and Hawaii.

LV rents will never reach the level of LA/SF/SD. Rents have been stagnant in Vegas for the last 10 years, the recession made sure of that.

Home prices are still below 2006 peaks. LA and SF have gone past their 2006 values.

We're not going to see median values reach 2006 levels till 2022 probably. After that, who knows what happens. But I don't see home prices rising crazy after that.

Maybe home builders will start building here again. We have plenty of land, so that's not the limiting factor. People say water is a problem, maybe but probably not. If so Nevada will make California take less water if it comes to it.

I don't think Vegas will match California. BUT I think Vegas will be at 2017 California prices in a few years or close enough.
Cali will either collapse or keep rising.
