Plus you can still find VERY cheap hotel rooms in vegas for well under $100 a night. Obviously you won't be overlooking the Bellagio Fountains sipping on champagne and caviar in your hotel room right on the middle of the Strip....but there are still very cheap deals to be had in this area and so people will continue to flock there.

I think what's happening is that the big "premium" brands are seeing this and increasing cost for some of the nicer things (aka, adding parking fee for many big name hotels on the Strip....maybe all of them... and higher resort fees)

While I tend to agree with you in theory, in practice, it seems to be working out the other way. The customers keep coming and paying. The ones complaining about the prices and not coming seem to have been successfully replaced.

Make Vegas fun again!

Las Vegas is inexpensive compared to NYC. While we are 'expensive' there is value here or we wouldn't have so many per year.

These are 2 niche conventions, never heard of either. They don't bring in a lot of people, probably have a small budget etc.
Wonder what their attendance will be like in Reno?

CES is still here correct? When they leave or other big ones do, that is the time to worry. No need to chicken little it so soon.
When we get too confident is when things head south. There are other players around and if we don't watch it then it won't be only two conventions leaving but tourist also!

^^ Bingo. Well said. Yeah it may be only two small conventions this time, but next time?? I think in the short term things may keep going up and up. But I think in the long run it'll catch up to you. There are a lot of other cities vying for our convention business. And the convention business is a staple of our economy.

A bike convention left. Geez that is shocking. They might have talked about it being too expensive or whatever, they went to a location that is competing hard for more business in their slow season. If you ever go to Reno in September you'd be shocked by how empty it is and how cheap the rooms are unless there is a big event going on. This convention won't even be a big event for them so it will be cheap for a long time and its a much more conducive environment for those who love biking to go out and enjoy the area. Not that Vegas is anti-bike, but its far from a biking utopia compared to all the places this convention could be held in the West.

They should hold the convention in Portland as that is considered Bike City, USA.

As far as I know, the LVCC is booked solid for the next 20 years. This is why they are expanding.
I believe the Mandalay Bay cc is booked solid for years as well. I am not worried about it yet. We have the rooms, weather, and space to host these things. Nowhere else does, yet.

But at the same time, people do complain, a lot, about the high prices of everything on the strip.

Reno / Tahoe is simply a better fit for Interbike.

Let's say you're a Fortune 500 company and you're having an annual sales conference and you're bringing in 20,000 sales people and HQ people from around the globe. Let's say you need multiple grand ballrooms because you need one for a plenary session and a 2nd for the dinner right afterwards.

Las Vegas is a premier destination for such a meeting. There are a few other places with the infrastructure, but not that many.

I was always kind of confused as to why we had to hit Chicago for RSNA. It's held in November for pete's sake. I'm no LV booster, but LV is a much better climate than Chicago at that time of year.
