Because it isn't as simple as that - there is no straight forward way for an illegal to become a citizen. Heck, there's no simple way for an illegal to become a legal immigrant:

Marriage - illegal marries a US citizen. To get a green card, the illegal has to leave the country after the marriage and return after applying for a resident Visa. But if they were in the US illegally for more than 180 days, they may be subject to a 3-10 year waiting period

Asylum Status - not easy to get

Victim of Crime Visa - must show one of the following
that they were a victim of physical or mental abuse due to a crime
must have information regarding the crime
must be helpful to the police investigating the crime
crime must be illegal in the United States

DREAMers - well not so much anymore.

It's not meant to simple and it shouldn't be. As I said when you have family that has done everything they can to be a citizen it's hard to feel sorry for those making excuses as to why they can't.

I shouldn't have said simple. Based on the above, it's almost impossible for an illegal alien to become a legal alien.

It's not a question of time or money! For those people, who are here without a legal status, there is no legal route -and haven't been for many decades- to obtain a work permit or green card . Most of those people would rush to get it if there was an opportunity, would stand in line, camp out like it was the opening of a new Ikea store!
You think there would be millions of illegal immigrants if they had the option to get a legal status?

Of course there will always be millions of illegals. Lots and lots of criminals need a place to commit their crimes. No money in Mexico.

Don't make excuses for them.

Excuses for the DACA kids? I know one. Her parents brought her here when she was a baby. Then they had a son. She was raised here her entire life. Straight A student, and all around good kid, but she's an illegal alien. Her father managed to get resident alien status for himself a few years back, and the little brother ( who is a little jerk) is a US citizen. The mom is not on INS radar because she doesn't work.

So guess who is getting deported? Stephanie, the straight A student that the US paid to vaccinate and educate for 18 years.

Not the mom and dad who broke the law in the first place. ICE doesn't have a file on Mom because she never filed for DACA.

Those that stayed in the shadows, including criminals, won't be affected.

Asides, DACA was widely abused by frauds and here in Las Vegas I am sure:
