I know some people enjoy talking about different ideas for moving pedestrians up and down the strip, so I'll leave this right here.

I knew they'd bring up the shooting.

What is this 1 October stuff? Still? It's so weird to reference the date that way here. Have to check my AP stylebook now. If I can find it.

Not going to happen. They can't even keep the porn slappers off the strip. However, the more options that are offered, the more people will take advantage of them, and fewer people will drive on the strip. Driving on the strip is a miserable experience to begin with.

Not that I do it very often, but I wouldn't like not being able to cruise the Strip, although it's not like it used to be. I suppose, however, that considering recent events and the way things are today, banning car traffic might be something that is a necessity.

Its possible, just would be a big project. It makes sense on many levels because part of the problem on the Strip is the nonsense that goes on. All the rolling billboards, the gawking drivers going about 15, the buses will effectively shut off lanes at times...all that could go away. There would have to be a big effort to make Koval and Frank Sinatra bigger and flow better, but just getting cars off the Strip takes away from the issues. I think you keep the buses and make them something of a rapid bus system going down the middle and then have wide sidewalks for pedestrians. Actually would be a very effective change and would benefit almost everyone except those #%$@%$ billboards.

I don't know what purpose closing the strip to vehicular traffic would serve. Pedestrian access is already good (as the hordes of tourists trooping up and down the strip already show. Pushing the traffic off the strip would only push it onto the back roads. As it stands, anyone who knows what their doing already uses the back roads instead of the strip, so closing the strip would take away that bypass.

It's obvious what's going on here. The corrupt city is trying to protect its failing and unpopular taxi cab services while also exploiting the shooting to turn Vegas into a police state run by kickbacks. As soon as they put out the idea it's your job to shout it down rather than complain silently. They will steal elections if they have to but if you shout nobody will believe the steals.
