I'm fairly new to Vegas & have recently heard a lil about the Farmer's Markets here & that there are actually several of them around. I'm curious about which ones are worth going to or not going to based on your experiences.

Looking on Yelp I'm seeing a lot of these places seem to have an abundance of hot food, lil hand made jewelry & random non-fruit/veggie food product stands more than standard "farmers" items. I'm just looking for some fruits & veggies at a nicer price + fresher product + ideally better product than I'll find in the grocery store & if there is cool other stuff fair enough I might purchase that to, but I'm not going there for non-fruits/veggies. So anything that'll point me into the direction at the best farmers market or two like that would be what I'm looking for.

The wife went to the one in downtown summerlin. There was only a couple vendors selling what you might call "farmers market" type fresh food. The rest were the trinkets and cooked food (ala street fair type). She hasn't gone back, as that's not what she was after.

We haven't tried "the farm" which is supposed to be pretty decent. But it's on our list of things we want to do.

^^^ that was my experience with them early on. I have been told many vendors have moved from Tivoli village to dwntwn Summerlin now. I'll give them another try after March. Noticed if I'm in that area on Sat AM's there seems to be more tables etc. I stay away for now as they had a wonderful bread vendor and my wallet is uncontrollable around bread.

The one at the "Gardens' off of town center near DI is good in the spring, summer and fall. From maybe March till mid November. They are maybe 75% farm produce.

Think most, if not all will have other items too. The owner of the market, will sell space, especially when it can be pretty much unlimited to anyone. As a business owner, I'd do the same.

Gilcrease Orchard is closed for the season right now but it seems to be well thought of by locals.

I'd imagine it's a bit difficult to find a genuine "farmers market" in Las Vegas. It's not like you see acres and acres of farmable land in every direction.

It ain't Santa Ynez, Tulare or Bakersfield, ya know?

Maybe it would help if they could get some of the farmers in Utah to truck some of their produce south down the 15 ???

A friend of mine works the farmers markets. Almost all the grocery type food comes from CA, they actually drive it up here each week. Prices are not cheaper than the store (usually more expensive), but I was told the food is generally fresher, usually considerably, compared to the grocery store.

And yes, it's typically only one or two actual grocery type vendors. They work with the market operator to create an exclusive deal for that type of product. Our markets are generally not well attended enough to support many grocery vendors.

This is one thing, and probably the only thing I miss from the time I spent in Central California, oh the fresh produce at the farmers markets (or the Mexican flea markets) was amazing. We'd buy all our produce there, would rarely buy anything from Save Mart (think of Smiths).

Doing some work in the yard this spring and considering have some vegetable garden raised beds put in.

Most of the fruits/vegetables at the Tivoli Village market are from Fresno. I once asked the vendor but it had to go up the chain of command for him to find out. Quite comedic but totally believable to realize that the vendor knew nothing of his own products on display.

The Farmers markets here are pretty lame. We go to the one on Rampart on Weds, sometimes if we are lucky we can get sweet corn or a nice watermelon, but you're lucky if there are 2 or 3 vendors selling produce. Mostly baked goods and bric a brac crap, not really a farmers market. It moves to Tivoli on the weekend.

The one in Downtown Summerlin is pretty much the same only a little bigger.

Growing up on Eastern Long Island I really miss picking my own stuff, from veggies and corn to pumpkins and strawberries.
