I moved in 2010 to New Jersey for a better job.

Camro5, I've had the opposite experience with healthcare here. Apparently, where we came from, the health care plan I had was terrible, LOL. Anyway, if your insurance includes dignity health, you might try Dr. Teresa Hong for a GP. Even my wife is impressed. And the couple specialists she's referred us to have been pretty awesome too. I also had great care at southern hills hospital. And I agree, finding new doctors when you move is a real crap shoot.

My wife is an RN Care Coordinator with Dignity at Dominican St. Rose. Unfortunately she hasn't been there long enough to really get to know any of the GP's. We have an HMO through Dignity/Health Plan of Nevada. That's been okay for the most part except for getting a referral for a specialist. The GP I went to sent the referral request to HPN and they asked the GP for additional information. It's been almost 6 weeks and the GP hasn't responded in spite of my numerous phone calls.

This GP also sent in a wrong prescription even though I gave her a list of my meds. I've made no less than 12 more phone calls to the GP and Optum RX trying to get this mess straightened out. This has been going on for almost a month and a half and they now say it's been sent, but I don't have it yet. I've had Optum RX before without issue, but this has been ridiculous. They have no idea of what they're doing.

Anyway, this was my first time using this GP and Optum (out here). I will have to find a new GP but I'm kind of stuck with Optum and just have to pray that it gets better.

I hear your frustration loud and clear!

Aetna Medicare Advantage was encouraging me to find a Primary Care Physician, which I haven't had in 2 years now, so I decided to try one with a Latin name, thinking it might be like going to see a Doctor in Mexico. Nope!

He noticed I had a touch of the flu and insisted on taking an X-ray to see if it was pneumonia. Really???? I had just done an X-ray and an MRI with my Ortho and wasn't up to putting more radiation into my body just yet. So! No antibiotics until the X-ray! I had to sort of laugh as I left his office, thinking of the antibiotics I brought back from my last trip to Mexico!

And he wanted to take a blood test on site. I asked him how much it would be, as far as a co-pay, he didn't know, so I passed on that too.

Then you wonder why I want to move closer to the Mexican Border! Those Multiple Vitamin Injections (mostly B vitamins) can do wonders! Wish they did them up here!

Having been back and forth and back and forth numerous times over the years, we're .....heading back East. As much as I love visiting Las Vegas, I really don't think it's every a place that I could truly live in full-time 365 days a year. Almost did, on a few occasions, but the cards dealt (pun intended) have me in a career that doesn't offer a lot of opportunities in Vegas not for lack of trying. Add to that SO's severe asthma/pulmonary issues, and my own allergies/breathing issues, and it's a no-go long term. Going on 4 years in Phoenix, and made the decision to move back to NY area to be closer to family. Will still keep the property in Vegas for vacations/retirement/rental opportunities, but the *%&^ HOA is making that even questionable as of late. We'll see what happens.

For all those on the way out - best of luck!

I believe strongly in everyone finding the place that is right for them, and I really feel that it's out there. I will say that no place is perfect, because I mean unless you could perhaps be dictator of your own little city, well, nothing is perfect.

To me a city is really important, though, I know other people have the attitude that everything is what you make of it (good attitude), but I think for me at least it matters a lot that where I live is somewhere I'm proud of being. I've always been a rebel, always been someone who goes against the grain, and Las Vegas suits my personality great. People can be completely different in what their ideal situation is and it's always fascinating. I'm the guy who wakes up every day and eats the same cereal without complaint, so I'm also the guy who doesn't like or want seasons. I want sun every day of the year. If I could choose my perfect weather it would be like Hawaii but without humidity, and Vegas isn't that but it's close enough for me. I don't complain about the heat, I stay indoors or go swimming, and I like the idea that winter is still about 60 degrees during the day, cold at night, but almost always clear and sunny. I spend a lot of time inside anyway, but looking out the window and seeing sunshine just makes me happy, whether it's 40 out or 110 lol.

I also like a 24 hour city, because I'm a night owl, so that's very important to me. I may not want a meal at 1 a.m. all of the time, but if I do, I don't want to be limited by the city I live in being incredibly lame.

It matters to me what the tax structure is, not just financially but philosophically. I feel that by living in a high income tax state, I implicitly give permission that this is acceptable behavior, that what they're doing is "ok" with me. It's not ok. It would make our founding fathers turn over in their graves. Nevada has built right into the constitution NO INCOME TAXES ever. That's a state I want to support and live in.

Philosophically, my opinion is live and let live, so I want to be in a state that doesn't care if someone is drinking a beer while walking down the sidewalk. I don't drink anymore, by the way, so it doesn't even apply to me but it bothers me that there would be a law in the 21st century in a free country that someone couldn't be drinking a beer while, say, walking out to check the mailbox across the street. That's just not ok with me. I like it that Nevada has legal prostitution even if it's well outside of Las Vegas, because it's a victimless crime and the best way to make sure the actual sex workers aren't abused by clients, can be tested for STDs, etc. What a ridiculous thing in general that you can give something away for FREE, but you can't sell it. I cannot appreciate the logic of that whatsoever, because there isn't any. It's just based in some ancient puritanical religious nonsense that has no bearing on reality.

Nevada is a state that feels most like I think the United States should be like (Texas is another one), whereas states like OR and CA where I have lived feel like I'm in a looney bin with a bunch of crazies who get offended by everything, think the government knows best about literally every part of your life, and who think taxes solve every human problem.

Nah, no thanks. When I move to Las Vegas that will be my final "home." I would like to pick up a condo in Burbank for work purposes, I like that city as long as I don't have to live in CA, and it would be economical if I'm there a lot.
