We will be one of the first to be T-mobile's guinea pigs

Why do we need 5G and what does it do?

It will allow you to teleport yourself to any city that has the technology in the blink of a nanosecond. After all we are merely just ones and zeros.

Seriously though, of course we don't need it... just like we didn't need the internet when it became available to the masses.

Being TMobile, it should make it just a tad slower than ATT, Verizon, or Sprint... On the strip, TMobile is terrible.

Hopefully T-Mobile will give COX some competition for broadband internet service.

5G is the beginning of the end for residential wired broadband service. It can offer gigabyte speed without the expensive infrastructure of laying fiber.

But what sort of ridiculous data caps and cost will go along with this new, electronic nirvana?

Obviously you need a phone that can take advantage of the speed, most won't notice a difference. I welcome the speed increase but what t-mobile should do is deploy band 12 here to penatrate these big buildings. I actually have to connect to Walmart's wifi when I enter the store.

It gives you an extra G when compared to 4G.

It is not just a phone scheme. Likely much more of an approach to an alternate connection to broad band internet. This is the reason why google fiber vanished. They are going to do the last mile wireless.
I would suspect it will be competitive with Cox with higher bandwidth.
