Hello,

Anyone take there dog for ACL surgery somewhere other than to LVVSC, there reviews are mixed just wanted to know what other options are out there. There price is around $3600-3800, a few people told me there are some non profit companies that will provide some assistance for the surgery but I haven't been able to find any yet.

Thank you for sharing your experience

Basically you have to decide if you want your ACL surgery done by a board certified specialist or not. LVVSC will have a board certified specialist do the surgery. Plenty of regular vets (non-specialists) will do the surgery for quite a bit less.

Personally I would spring for LVVSC if you can afford it. You're talking 4 additional years of surgical training for the vet plus the fact they are doing these type of surgeries quite frequently.

Talk to the surgeon and see how long they have been at LVVSC. Vegas is a popular "first hop" for vets from graduation as the pay is high relative to cost of living.

$3600-$3800 is a pretty good price for LVVSC.

I'm not familiar with any non profit companies that will assist.

You can about bank on the other ACL needing to be done within the next year as they put such stress on it while recovering from the surgery.

That being said, it's worth considering. Just know it's not a sure thing for the repaired or for the other legs now after.

We take our dogs to Camino al Norte animal hospital. They had a specialist come in to do the surgery. Cost was around 2800. The other poster was right, when one goes the other one goes within a year. They were great. 2 dogs 4 acls in 2 years. Luckily we had pet insurance

I have also heard Camino El Norte is reasonable. Another option discussed often is taking the dog to Mesquite. Lots of people say prices are much lower there.

Just call around and find out what animal hospitals have a board certified specialist come to their location and do the surgery on site..no idea on cost but I'm guessing less expensive than a specialty center because those places have insane overhead equipment wise and charge accordingly.

It seems quite a few animal hospitals in the valley have in house on demand specialists for fairly routine but highly specialized surgeries such as this.

I've seen some very remarkable outcomes from LVVSC...just mentioning other means that MAY be less expensive.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think Camino uses a surgeon from lvvsc.

Any suggestions for basic care of our Norfolk and Norwich terriers? Moving to town soon, need a good vet.

Boy Norfolk is 14, diabetic, has cataracts. Doing pretty well for his age. Girl Norwich is 10 and basically healthy.

Thanks for any suggestions. Our house is in NW (Providence).

Whatever you do though, do not, and I repeat do not use Dr. Rising (I probably spelled it wrong)... One of our dogs, had to go through the surgery twice.. he put in a metal plate incorrectly..

Assuming they will be indoor dogs, their care will be pretty straightforward here and you won't be constantly battling fleas or heartworm. Obviously, don't walk them on pavement when it is hot and if you will be living in a house LOCK your gate so it isn't left open and install a screen for it if needed.
