I’m looking to hear people’s experience to switching to Solar. I spoke with a salesman (consultant) from Encoresolar about my home and I was actually surprised on the type of deal he was offering. It almost sounds too good to be true from my point of view.

The old saying "If it sounds too good to be true it probably is". Who you should be talking to is people who have owned them for awhile.

Consider this also, even though different company same problems can occur.

This would apply also if selling a home too as prospective buyers will need to qualify credit wise for both the home and also for the solar lease/purchase assuming seller doesn't pay it off.

I also urge you to check carefully and I would want to talk to some of their clients who had their installations more than a year ago. I probably get 3 calls a week from solar providers with high pressure sales pitches. If you have to pressure people to buy there is a catch somewhere!!!

I’m looking to buy primarily and have it paid off as I’m considering it as a long term investment.

I pre-wired my house to support 18 kW of panels, and currently have 12 kW installed. I purchased my panels & microinverters -- they are not leased.

How is this working out financially? Have you figured out the IRR on the installation?
