The mechanic I have used in the past few years gave up and closed the shop and moved back to San Diego.

Looking for somebody that knows Hondas well and all their problems. A shop that lets you pick the parts is helpful also. Arics, if your still around. Can you PM me the shop you used a couple months back with your Element. Need the same job done on my Pilot along with new struts also. Already got the parts from Rockauto.

Thanks to both of you. I will look into them both. Finding out alot of shops dont want to deal with you if you bring your own parts.

H-Tech off Rainbow and Oakey is a solid choice. Next door is Specialized Auto for less intensive issues.

no, I disagree, they couldn't find the issue with mine and suggested that I wait... Another Honda Element was coming in and they would swap parts until they found the problem...

Huh. I've only needed them twice (most of the time I handle my own repairs), but in both situations they were able to resolve the issue with my Odyssey. Less than a dealer, more expensive than a shade-tree mechanic, and fairly quick. I will say that I generally needed to call them to find out when it was actually done and could be picked up. They had no problem installing a fan that I supplied.

The mechanic I posted that is leaving used to be part of H Tech. He ended up taking over their old shop on Commerce after they moved to Rainbow.

I wonder how common/ethical this practice is...

If I were the owner of the "other" Element and found them doing this without my consent I would be pretty livid.
