I was at the NY car show a couple of weeks ago. I was in the Chevy booth, and the had a Tahoe that looked pretty good. Looking at the price sticker, it was north of $70,000.

That's why.

The Escalades and Tahoe’s can also go north of $100k

A Mustang can go north of $150k

I've been shopping for a new vehicle. Finding a tahoe on the lot for under 80k is next to impossible. (Note I did not say it was impossible)
The new expedition is 100k+
Truck I want is 57k and it's not even diesel.

Yes but those are extremely blinged out. The one I saw was nice, but nothing out of the ordinary. But the point remains the same. While basically a gussied up pickup truck based vehicle, these things are expensive.

From what I've seen they're closer to 80k, depending on trim level of course.

Regardless, rental car companies are in business to make a profit & aren't likely to have a lot of 80k vehicles in their fleet. SUVs always seem to have crazy expensive rental rates, if you found a Tahoe on an earlier occasion for $420 that was likely an outlier.

I'm not sure what this has to do with Las Vegas. Rental car supply & demand exists anywhere. If you don't like the rates, speak with your feet & go elsewhere. Or look into another vehicle.

A Ford Expedition? XLT trim is in the $50k range. Platinum add $10-25k. Limited add $30-45k.

The Lincoln version (Navigator) easily gets $97k ++ for the Black Label editions.

They are expensive to maintain. In about 2 weeks I will have a like new 2008 Hummer H2 for rent, the only one in Vegas. You may want to look for a rental through Turo, it is an AirBB of the rental car industry. Might be less. Mine will be on Turo. Give it a try.

I bought my Kia at a ford dealer in mesquite. I could not believe how expensive trucks are. They had Explorers topping 50k. I cannot imagine having a $800 payment.
