Advertisements

Went to Smith's the other day to buy some SF popsicles and fudge bars. They are not there anymore. They do have some options advertised as low cal or low fat but they are still loaded with sugar. Not much selection of SF candy either.

Does your store still have these and where do you shop? I can order candy online once it cools down a bit but I have to find the frozen products locally! I am so disappointed!

this is kind of on topic...

when something is replaced, it's not always for the better. i COMPLETELY agree with cutting down on sugar, though the substitutes are many and varied and come with their own baggage. and i know as a parent this is a good way to cut sugar for the kids, so sometimes it's the small steps and less damage is the way to go.

when saturated fats were the villain (yes, were), they replaced it with trans-fats, and look where that got us? who eats margarine anymore? or corn oil (BAD) or other polyunsaturated oils. how do you avoid them anyway - (almost) every one eats out and that's what the fry cook uses (cheap, available, cheap).

if a place advertised that they used lard, or butter, that's where i'd spend my money. fat chance.

You would think there would be SF stuff everywhere but it's not true. I have been a low carb girl forever. And I love butter!

You have to be careful with sugar free treats. There’s a famous bunch of reviews about sugar free gummy bears on Amazon. It’s truly comedy gold.

Klondike bars! Sugar free chocolate and Krunch. And they are delicious.

I posted this in another thread. The one about Thrifty ice cream.

Speaking of chocolate and ice cream, I am pre-pre-diabetic. Hey, that's how the doc described it. So I''m looking at sugar free stuff. Found some Klondike sugar free bars. Dang! Some of the best ice cream ever. Sugar free!

There's also a Krunch bar.

Maltitol Syrup

Maltitol is a disaccharide produced by hydrogenation of maltose obtained from starch. Maltitol syrup, a hydrogenated starch hydrolysate, is created by hydrogenating corn syrup: a mixture of carbohydrates produced from the hydrolysis of starch; this product contains between 50% and 80% maltitol by weight.

Hi OP,

Walmart in SoCal carries a sugar free Cherry/Pineapple popsicle that is very inexpensive...like $1.80 for a 12 pack. They resemble the old missle pops.

I am guessing they carry them in LV as well. We have had best luck at the Walmart Neighborhood markets. Only downside is they frequently sell out.

As an aside, I like several of the no sugar added deserts at the Main St Station buffet.

I agree! If you go read the reviews I guarantee you will laugh till you cry. I have some of these little jewels in a canister on the counter. Woe be to the person who just pours out a bowlful and sits down to watch a movie. You won't be just sitting there for long! I know exactly how many *I* can eat without suffering the side effects and I count them out. I don't eat them every day but they are very good! And if I ever needed a laxative I would probably use these.

Just so everyone else can laugh till they cry! https://www.amazon.com/Haribo-SUGAR-...ews/B006J1FBLM

Precisely why I skip sugar free stuff. If you over-do it you will pay for it.
