I would see a different problem. if you have an AC unit dedicated to the master bedroom the air intake and outlets should all be in that room. And I would reshape ducting and such to make it true.

Then the thermostat can be co-located with the inlet. In most installations you would also have the master bath outlet off the same unit.

yes the dedicated unit covers the master bed and bath.

I'm not willing to start moving ducts etc, but a small electric cable I'm quite happy to move!

The intake is outside the room, all outlets in the room/bath/closet.

The other alternative is always leave the master bedroom door open. You might be able to vent the door or around it...but that is likely almost as complicated as moving the inlet.

There is no way that AC system will function with the door closed..

I would nit be happy with a contractor that put a dedicated until in a bedroom, left the thermostat in the hall, and did not change the ducts.

Is this the same guy that wouldn't move the thermostat because of "code"?

If you already have an ecobee (3 or 4), you can just buy a remote sensor and put that in the room. then in the app, just turn off the thermostat sensor and use the remote one for all of your cycles. Problem solved for $35. You only have to change the battery about once a year. It's not very hard, and batteries cost about $1.

Now that is an elegant solution.

As long as you do not need to close the door to the master bedroom.

One of the worst things you can do is close the vent completely to a room. It screws up the air flow and can damage your system. You can partially close a vent to a room but not all the way.
