Most people who hate the city are the people who don't give it a fair chance.

Las Vegas is just like any other city. It's whatever you make of it. The people who come in with a poor attitude are the people who end up hating it here. People who come in with a positive attitude end up loving it here.

It must be TV and Tabloid magazines that give Vegas a bad name. I know a good christian woman who moved to Henderson and she told me on a visit back here that she NEVER sees bad things, that casinos are not involved in her life, she said it's all about what you choose.
I live in Minnesota, the land of 10,000 norweigns and swedes and just a few weeks back there was a week-end that left 3 dead in uptown, Mpls.. the area that I grew up in and at the store in which rode my bike up to for candy, without parental supervision!! BYTW- all gang related killings.Never would I let my kids do that even in the cookie cutter neighborhood full of kids in which I live now. I know for a fact that in my nice suburban neighborhood there was a meth house and from what I hear there are plently more around this community. These are very nice 300k-600k homes. So my point being,,,, crime, bad behavior, drugs and etc. seem to be everywhere from Rual to City.. from Minnesota to Las Vegas. It stinks. Maybe we all just watch too much TV-

I am leaving Las Vegas at the end of the summer and it is not because I hate it here or have any hard feelings about this city. Its just not a good fit for me. I used Las Vegas as a place to jump start my career, which it did tremendously. But, Vegas just never felt permanent to me. After six years of living here I still feel like a guest. But its tough to blame Las Vegas for that; it could just be my own perspective.

There seems to be an aspect of instability in Nevada. The economy sort of has all of its eggs in one basket by solely relying on tourism and gaming and I was always hesitant to purchase a home here in fear that one more serious terrorist attack, and perhaps people will stop coming to Las Vegas. More and more, I see some scary stuff going on in the local news. Big city style problems, but we are not a big city in Las Vegas. It would be one thing if this was a city the size of LA, Chicago, Boston, etc... but its not, and to see the kind of crimes that are happening valley wide. It feels a little out of balance to me. I have a deep mistrust of our local and state government. I think this state is severely mismanaged. They regulate things that do not need to be regulated and then fail to regulate important things. I met some very messed up people when I first moved out here. I quickly learned to be leery of who to trust and carefully chose who to spend my time with. Once I learned to gage people a little more wisely, I made some very good friends. I do not know any Meth addicts out here nor have I ever met anyone who gambled away their home or business.

My brother moved away a few years ago and he said that the one thing that is hard to get used after leaving is the lack of 24 hour access to stores. In Vegas, there is no such thing as "last call". Personally, I think I will miss some of my friends a lot more than I will miss Las Vegas the place.

I've moved more times then I care to count (okay - I'll count - 12 in 22 years) due to Military service. I have found people that did not like where they were EVERY place I have been to. If someone were to ask the OP why he is moving from where he is now, he'd have some reasons as well.
Many people don't like where they are because of their life situation. Definately have to keep that in mind when talking to these folks.
Start a new thread (or view old ones) on what the people that live in Vegas think, like, dislike, etc... of there home town. Better to get that from the people that live there. One thing I really enjoy about this forum is nobody is touting "Come and live in my great town", they answer questions honestly and give you the straight scoop. VERY REFRESHING!!

I want to move to Vegas but I have found some stunning discouraging things about it. I still planning to move there but I just have to accept the facts.

I had a realiable source that many of the residents there are very careless. She told me that many people there gamble away their home, family and kids. She was not kidding. She told me many people move there where doing drugs, stealing, gambled away everything. She told me even great proffesion jobs like Doctors and Police are horrible trained. She told me she knew alot of doctors gamble away everything and where very careless. Can you say biggest Hepetisis C exposure ever? She told me Police are horrible. I always read stories of people getting shot in Vegas area by Police. I could not believe until I read the Henderson Murder of that Albanian Ice cream lady by Polcie.

I hear there is a really hidden crime problem. Crystal Meth Addicts roam the night in the dark and rob and steal everything at night. When I was in Las Vegas on business, I went to a 24 hour Super Walmart pass Midnight. I was stunned to see some of the people walking in there. Go to google and type "Crystal Meth" then view the Google pictures by pressing the "Images"tab. I swear to god, it seems everyone in there looked like a crystal Meth addict.

THis is just a few sample I have time to share with many of you. If you have moved out of vegas, please let me know why??? I really do want to move there! I just want the plain facts. When I was there, I was overjoyed and it was a place for me.

I totally agree with you on the Crystak Meth Addicts. Man they are everywhere.

Las Vegas is nice to live but it is not for me anymore.

Too much drugs. Too much Crime. Yes, many residents are addicted to Gambling and lose everything. I knew way to many people that lost everything and have commited suicide.

A whole subdivision has forclosure or for sale sales everywhere in many area. Everything is vacant.

Is Vegas still for you? Be very careful what you want. History always repeats itself. THe Vegas Boom will die eventually. The Casino have overdeveloped the city especially in a time of a near recession in the USA with super high gas prices.

3 Airlines flied for Bankruptcy last week along. ATA, Ahola, And Skybus.

Ford, GM, and Chrysler are laying off thousands yearly.

There will be no end in gas prices.

In 5 to 15 years from now, Lead Mead will be dried up.

Gas will be close to $10 a gallon in 5 to 15 years. If that is the case, Las Vegas tourism will be a doomtown. Massive amounts of people will move out especially in the energy crisis will no end.

I was on business traveling on the roads leading in and into Nevada last week, there was hundreds of cars stuck on the road within a time frame of 5 hours. THis is a result of people having no money and running out of gas going to and out of Las Vegas area to Las Angeles. This is reality.

Pay here is not that great. City is lots of fun only to visit but not to live here.

So this is the real situation of Las Vegas. 5 to 15 years from the now the whole town will start looking like a modern day Detroit. Nothing but vacant run down houses on every street.

So do yourself a flavor, go somewhere else and do not get suckered into Vegas Hollywood lifestyle. Most dreams fail here and most people lose everything. THe people who tough it out will soon see with super high gas prices will lead to a massive end to Las Vegas.

History always repeats itself.

I just moved from Japan where about 45K, yes THOUSAND commit suicide each year for things ranging from shame, poverty, broken relationships, etc... You can't blame that on gambling. I'll give you the fact that there probably are some that come to Vegas with the intention of striking it big or striking out

A whole subdivision has forclosure or for sale sales everywhere in many area. Everything is vacant.

As the investor that is still worth MILLIONS why they bought so many homes. They will eventually sell, just for not what INVESTORS paid for them.

Is Vegas still for you? Be very careful what you want. History always repeats itself. THe Vegas Boom will die eventually. The Casino have overdeveloped the city especially in a time of a near recession in the USA with super high gas prices.

This has impact no doubt, but ask all people from Europe and Asia now that can afford to come to Vegas. The middle to high end gambler, where Vegas makes their money can still afford it.

3 Airlines flied for Bankruptcy last week along. ATA, Ahola, And Skybus.

These companies were offering on such minimal margins that something should give when fuel is the reason. Incidently, prices are what 10% - 20% higher then they were 3-5 years ago.

Ford, GM, and Chrysler are laying off thousands yearly.

One word - UNION. When you pay someone 30 bucks on hour to sweep floors, they will be replaced. I am from Michigan and have relatives that work in these companies and still do. It's bleek...but the great things the Union did 20 -30 years ago doesn't apply today. They didn't adjust, refuse to adjust, and now are layed off. Technology replaced many many jobs.

There will be no end in gas prices. There will be when electric and hybrid cars become affordable.

In 5 to 15 years from now, Lead Mead will be dried up. Doesn't warrant a reply

Gas will be close to $10 a gallon in 5 to 15 years. If that is the case, Las Vegas tourism will be a doomtown. Massive amounts of people will move out especially in the energy crisis will no end.

I highly doubt this. Do you realize that we are still among the lowest in the World for an industialized nation for our gas prices. Google prices in Europe and Japan...they were well over 4-5 bucks a gallon.

I was on business traveling on the roads leading in and into Nevada last week, there was hundreds of cars stuck on the road within a time frame of 5 hours. THis is a result of people having no money and running out of gas going to and out of Las Vegas area to Las Angeles. This is reality.

Again 10-20% higher then they were 3-5 years ago. Let's say a 20 gallon tank, 20% of 3.00 = 60 cents. So 20 gallons X 60 cents = 12 dollars. Do you honestly think that for 12 dollars a car is sitting on the side of the road?

Pay here is not that great. City is lots of fun only to visit but not to live here.

Pay is good for service jobs. Can they afford a 300,000 home on these wages? NO. But they bought anyway and now are contributing to the vacancy rate.

So this is the real situation of Las Vegas. 5 to 15 years from the now the whole town will start looking like a modern day Detroit. Nothing but vacant run down houses on every street.

Detroit was a SH*& whole 15-20 years ago. The nice homes were outside of the city. Too much crime, corupt mayor, and gang/drug problems. Always been the case there. Unemployment is high, but people won't take the jobs when the state hands welfare out like the clinic does condoms. Again, I am from Michigan so am speaking from experience.

So do yourself a flavor, go somewhere else and do not get suckered into Vegas Hollywood lifestyle. Most dreams fail here and most people lose everything. THe people who tough it out will soon see with super high gas prices will lead to a massive end to Las Vegas.

Your opinion which you are entitled too. Wish you would actually look at what drives things.
History always repeats itself.
Really can't believe I spent this much time trying to expain something who has no idea what drives economics. GEEZ
