These numbers surprised me. I would have never guessed penny slots were so popular. These numbers are from Twitter. I am not sure where the full data is published but would be curious to see it.

Nevada casino June net win:
Blackjack $100.0m
Craps $36.0m
Roulette $36.7m
Baccarat $73.7m
Sports $20.1m
Penny slots $255.0m

Looks right to me. Penny dom is the biggest money maker these day on the slot floor bringing in around 50% of the total slot drop.

I think you might find a real penny machine hidden in a dark corner somewhere--one where you could actually wager a penny at a time. The penny denomination is quite the marketing scheme--max bets are $2-$8, depending on what crazy games someone plays. Those rip-off Buffalo machines are always occupied, taking pennies from people, 300-750 pennies at a time.

I agree. Advertising a machine as a penny slot is deceiving when most often the minimum bet is $0.50 a spin. On penny video poker machines you can bet $0.01 per hand, but it's kind of boring.

I have a buddy that comes into town from Austin, TX at least 10-12 times a year (he's single). All he plays is penny slots, but usually at $6 to $8 a pull, and he does pretty good at it. He gets full RFB, and tickets to all the shows, sporting events, and parties.

Like most players, he likes to talk about the big wins, but doesn't talk so much about the losses. I've always figured that you never get more in comps than what you spend on gaming, but he does get a lot of perks, so who knows? He does stay drunk most of the time (in Vegas) and I think his liquor tab alone would make up for what he gambles.

Makes sense to me. Lots of people won't play those high minimums on the other games. But they will sit there for hours at .45 per spin. They want some play for their money. And there has to be something for everyone to do. The odds on penny machines are the worst too!

I just don't see the point. I can play dollar slots for $3 per pull. Why pay 2-3 times that to play pennies? It made more sense back in the day, when you had three-coin three-reel machines and it only cost three cents each time.

You don't get back 40% of your bet back 60% of the time on a 3 reel slot, giving you the illusion of winning and your money going farther with those micro wins. Plus those bonus rounds are just so darn fun. And where else can you enjoy Willy wonka, Seinfeld, Brady bunch, 007, and dozens of other baby boomer memories.
