Just want to point out that medical centers typically allow their employees to sign a declination form and often require the use of a face mask for the duration of flu season. Not truly "mandatory".

I just checked the flu map. I don't live in Nevada. I don't know anyone who has the flu.

What part of "federal" wasn't clear? If I choose to work for the Air Force, they can pretty much make anything mandatory as in do what you're told if you want to keep your job.

I am extremely lucky. I make nearly double the wage usually offered for my profession in the private sector and especially Las Vegas since as someone pointed out, the average wage here is around 15.00 per hour.

I haven't gotten a flu shot in at least five years. Nor have I had the flu. I credit Epicor immune booster. It's a yeast product with an interesting history. Used originally in cattle feed someone figured out the plant workers wern't getting sick. This story includes information about a brother and sister that had a degenerative eye disease. Hers (office) progressed. His (plant) stopped.

I find it difficult to believe the federal government will force their employees in the VA to get a flu shot, or face termination if they decline. Sounds very extreme. Surely there are employees that can decline and receive approval. "Mandatory", as you put it, allows for no exceptions. I'd bet high dollar that some federal VA employee somewhere out there, received clearance for declination.

I'm 75. The flue shot was free. Why not? As a teen, I nearly died of viral pneumonia. There is no vaccine against that. But there is against the current strain of the flu. I'm not taking any chances. Life is too sweet.

It is free for me too because it is garbage. I would rather pay $25 a year for vitamin d and prevent the flu. The flu shot will not prevent the flu, only lessen the duration of it. There are 144 strains of flu. The flu shot only protects against whatever 3 or 4 they happen to put in the shot that year.
