Anyone familiar with the Onyx Apartments on Duke Ellington W. I know it's just off the strip, and crime is supposedly an issue. But when I look up photos and reviews, the place itself looks lovely and the reviews are good.
Is serious crime really that bad?
Thanks in advance.

I never lived in those apartments but I own a place near there and I have never felt unsafe. The area around Tropicana near the strip I think it gets an unfair rap because once you get north of Flamingo up towards DI off the strip it starts to get sketchy. So people assume anywhere around the strip is crime infested and a ghetto.

Sure it's Vegas, so you're going to get the occasional drunks, homeless passerby, tweakers, etc, but most crime I have heard of around there is non-violent offenses such as vehicle break-ins, disturbing the peace, etc. As with any big city just be aware of your surroundings and you shouldn't have a problem.

Thank you. I grew up in Watts, went away to College, joined the Navy and since have retired and lived in all sorts of places. When I mention to folks I'm moving to Vegas and I don't necessarily want to live out in the burbs, folks bring up "Danger" and crime.
My way of thinking if I'm closer to the strip, there is probably more law enforcement due to tourist activity.

I would expect the place is quite safe. That little corner between the airport and the strip is not going to be a crime problem. It is however pretty sterile. Kind of living in an institution.

If you want close in to the strip two suggestions...there are more if you got substantial money but without...

See if you can find a place in the Las Vegas Country Club. Immediate access to the north end of the strip and a nice place to live. And it also has some old apartments converted to condos that are inexpensive.

Or if looking for a little excitement see if you can find something in Meridien on Flamingo. More good looking women than virtually anywhere. And again quite safe inside the development.

Yeah I was born and raised in LA also so I am used to living in an urban environment and know that you can't avoid crime 100%, even if you live in the burbs. And you are right, I see tourists walking to the off strip casinos, restaurants, bars, a block or two away and now with the Raider's stadium, MSG sphere, etc going off strip and the same area I think it will only improve with time.

Thank you all. And by the way I'm a straight female, so the good looking females is not that much of a draw for me. But I like the idea of being able to walk to entertainment, bars and restaurants.
