Hopefully this pushes them to do away with this madness. I see many people flaunting the rules and driving in the lane anyway.

That's not an argument to remove the HOV rules at night time. That should be an argument to increase highway patrol for the carpool lane.

Did you even read it? Because you’re wrong - when even the police say it’s idiotic then it likely means they’re not going to waste much time enforcing a stupid left wing failed policy.

The one guy said it best - people like to drive in their own car, by themselves, to get where they’re going. HOV lanes are idiocy in general so at least reducing that idiocy to prime hours would be nice.

HOV lanes are idiotic? The entire city is already designed around single occupancy cars, suburban sprawl and "drive till you qualify" housing prices. Adding 2 more lanes on the 15 and 95 would only decrease traffic for a few years. Induced demand is a real thing.

The real problem with HOV lanes is that there is no other effort to get people to carpool. No services to match people, no express bus service utilizing the lanes and no real effort to get people do what you want them to do, which is intentionally not drive in a car alone. So the users end up being families or people who just happen to be traveling together anyways.

As much as people seriously hate them, the only thing that works is financial incentives. Paid lanes based on demand work best. They get the lanes to be utilized during most hours of the day and shift some of the cost of road building away from the public. Unfortunately its like a lot of potential public policy which could be done so much better with some economic incentives built in, the public hates it for all the wrong reasons.

When I need to go to work or when I want to go home, waiting around for other people in my car pool is the last thing I want to do. I just want to hop in my car and go.

Agree. I lived in a city with optional paid lanes and found it to be great. You got to choose whether time or money was more important, and prices were affordable and fair.

Why reduce it to prime hours?

The hov lanes aren't needed by anyone in off peak hours, so why do we need to use them? Answer is we don't.

Making hov 24hrs every day of the week avoids confusion.

Time for coppers to hand out the fines. If you can't read a simple sign and follow a rule, why are you driving?

Oh don’t worry, they are impeding the normal flow of traffic daily to catch those scofflaws! Of course the commute would flow much more smoothly if they waited until 09:00 to do that.
