I'm wanting to buy a home, but have heard of coyotes attacking small dogs. Anyone know of what neighborhoods this might be in? Thanks!

I'm thinking unless you live on the edges of the city facing the open desert that it's not a problem. I have yet to see or hear of a coyote with the exception of one that lives in the desert area at sunset park.

Sorry I'm no help about your area, but we have them here east of Seattle, but they seem to prefer cats and rabbits.

Coyotes are important anywhere there is large open landscaped territory. No coyotes the rabbits take over. Rabbits are a pain without control.

Small dogs are at little risk unless they run free in the desert at night. Generally coyotes are careful about coming over walls. So small animals are safe behind walls. We have a free ranging dog and cat and have had others...including a feral that lived on our back patio for 12 years.

Much more likely the small pet will get hit by a car...

It's not a problem unless you are quite rural.

If I were you I'd worry more about neighborhood cougars attacking your husband.

I live on the edge of town, 5 houses down from open desert. Never seen a coyote here. Plenty of rabbits, though.

But I did see a fox cross the road the other day.

And to echo others: don't worry about coyotes. There are plenty of other really unlikely things to worry about that are far more likely than having issues with coyotes.

I saw a Coyote on the walking trail yesterday at the end of a leash!

Okay okay, maybe it was a German Shepard. I didn't have my glasses on.

I have never in all my years heard of a coyote attacking a persons dog in Las Vegas. I never see them and I do live on the fringe where they would be.

Now I was stationed in California and we had Coyotes all over the place. They still never attacked dogs or people for that matter. They potentially could, don't get me wrong. A lot of times when they come around people they are doing so because they know we have good trash.

As everyone knows coyotes eat roadrunners if they are able to catch them. More often than not they end up falling off a cliff though.
