Henderson ranked 2nd safest city in U.S., survey says updated 7-18-2018

The second largest city in Nevada was ranked as the second safest city in the nation, according to a survey released Monday.

The website for Forbes Magazine placed Henderson, the city in the southeast end of the Las Vegas Valley, behind Dallas-suburb Plano, Tex. on a list of the safest U.S. cities.

The rankings were based on factors like the violent crime rate and traffic deaths.

Forbes also noted Henderson's low poverty rate and casinos which cater mainly to locals.

Honolulu, Hi. was third, Santa Ana, Calif. was ranked fourth and Lincoln, Neb. rounded out the top five.

Not buying it...sorry. The fact that "Santa Ana, CA" made third place shows what an utter joke this article is! These headlines from just this past year sort of speak for themselves:

I lived in plano and Henderson and I don't see much difference in crime. Both are good cities with low crime. Of course you are going to have crime - just keep it low.

Henderson has been top 10 for low crime among cities with population greater than 100,000 for years. That there are report able crimes does not change this.

Summerlin is likely similar but there is no easy way to get the separate numbers from Metro.

Like any city I have lived in, there are good parts and bad parts. I have only been here a few years, but I feel that anywhere in Henderson that is south of the 215 or not too far north of it are the nicest & safest areas, with some exceptions (Tuscany Village comes to mind). Especially nice/safe areas are Green Valley Ranch, Seven Hills, Anthem, Inspirada, etc. Just look at a crime map and you will see a noticeable difference between these and neighborhoods closer to Vegas, so I think it would be more accurate to say:

Henderson: The 2nd Safest City in America*

*If you live in a nice neighborhood.

Good grief. Perhaps those aren't considered "violent" enough crimes for the survey.
At one time I lived "across the tracks" in Southern Highlands but spent a lot of time in Henderson and didn't feel particularly safe there.

No - Not a Compton or such. But I agree it will never make a top ten on crime. Next to Irvine which will always make the top ten...But Santa Ana is bottom third.

Although I love Henderson and own a place there, that article is from 2011 and updated in 2013. Is there a current article?
