Get lost. Phoenix or San Francisco are much better places for you.

Don't expect the people here to support you, we'll tell you right where to stick it.

If you don't have $10K on hand to move, forget it. That goes for anywhere in the country.

DScott2357, people will try to help you here with advice, and we will not tell you where to stick it. Except for equid0x. Las Vegas could work for you, but you need a nest egg first. Just common sense. Good luck!

I guess if you've done it before, and you know about the extreme heat warnings, and about the boondocking on BLM land for 14 days at a time, and you get a gym membership for showers then you'll probably be alright.

I don't see why not. Loads of Seniors are boondocking for their retirement these days living in vans, trailers and RVs with meager to modest social security checks as their only source of income and they somehow make it work. We have an entire aging baby boomer generation doing this as their only retirement to fall back on.

Someone should make a documentary on it, "Boomers Boondocking."

Unless you are willing to be "initiated" as in trial by fire.

7K and a good resume might work, although I am an anomaly. You have to be very motivated and ultra resourceful here.

You could rent a room around Lake Mead and J street for 400 or 450. Where are you from?

And the owner might keep the thermostat set to 80 degrees.

Absurd. Seniors are the wealthiest age group.

Not a surprise coming from you. It's still very much true though. Stop being so triggered.

1). It's true. The flood control tunnels house a significant part of LV's homeless population

2). It wasn't meant so much as a joke as it was a sarcastic reply to the OP's OP. If he does what he says, there's a decent chance he'll end up living down there.

I am guessing some people are just habitual gamblers that will do everything to gamble or get in Casinos more. While I hardly get the gambling thing I know that while some people can get lucky most would lose much much more then they would ever win. And the industry is there to take from suckers. Yep Slot machines are there to eat your money not help you win money as they mislead you to believe. Though it could also be that he is about to become homeless in his own city and he might find Las Vegas appear cheaper and easier to land a job probably in the casino industry which he might enjoy doing and have lower rents and cost of housing/living compared to cities like LA or SF, etc. Though landing a job and securing housing at the same time seems to be putting the cart before the horse these days unless one is already very talented.

I be curious whether Laughin a good idea as well, as I find that Laughlin can be very cheap and have casino hotels just like Vegas, I see a lot of RVers/snowbirds and other retirees who stay in Laughlin for long periods of time some in RVs others in hotel rooms. I see that rooms at full service hotels in Laughlin can be as cheap as $15 a night before taxes and a $11 resort fee. And its proximity to Bullhead City, AZ is also a plus as the costs of gasoline other commodities are much cheaper there compared with the Nevada side. Though I would ask based on my observation, in the low season which includes summer and fall I noticed Las Vegas area also get affordable as long as you stay in one that doesn't charge a hefty resort fee(i.e Four Queens Casino) or very low resort fee and try to stay only on the weekdays? Maybe while sleeping in the car/tent at nearby BLM lands on the weekend late nights to avoid the higher hotel weekend rates and the heat and trying not to gamble your funds away too soon, or spend it away too soon, (Las vegas is tempting for spending, unfortunately even without gambling).

Though I would like to ask if someone can give a ball park of three scenarios for the OP: Adding up final expenses as room and board are not the only expenses you will encounter, one also needs to consider the costs to live including for food.
1.Stay in Four Queens Las Vegas $30-$40 no resort fee during weekdays and sleeping in car on weekends on BLM land?
2. Same as above but commute to Laughlin, NV on weeks which rooms in Las Vegas are too expensive.
3. Staying in Laughlin,NV all along.
We also have to consider meal costs as well as hotels and likely a car that is not a contained van would not have a kitchen.

My wife's nephew and his girlfriend came out here without doing any research and without having any financial cushion. They had it in their heads that all that they had to do was show up and casinos would be lining up to immediately hand them high paying jobs. After about three weeks they returned to where they came from, the elusive casino jobs still eluding them.

I say go for it. Opportunity favors those with the courage to believe in themselves. I have always believed in luck which means taking a chance. See if you can get a tent and a good folding cot. Reading your posts, I think you can do it.
