Default Concrete homes/California fires

Big question? If California mandated that all homes in fire-prone areas of California be built with concrete, how much would this minimize the damage to houses from fire dangers? When Chicago had their great city fire at the turn of the century, The city of Chicago mandated that all new construction be built of brick and concrete. Why isn't California doing this? If I were to build, say, on the coast near Big Sur where they recently had these fires, and plunk down a half million for a house, I would surely want a structure built that would withstand both an earthquake and fire. When I see these stick-built homes go up in flames in Calif. during these fires, I wonder, wonder, wonder, where these people's heads were at, building in a forested area, thinking the great fire would never come? Like in Lake Tahoe last year.

Been in active use in Europe since Roman times. They used it on masonry buildings rather than frame. That is also the custom in Mexico.

Fred and Barney both owned some really cool stone houses....probably the predecessor to the modern day concrete homes. They didn't have to concern themselves with the price of gas either!

Yabba-dabba DOOO!
