Look to Alaska to see how the largest city trying to push the whole rest of the state around is fairing. At least all the Anchorage and Mat-Su legislators have to occasionally come to Juneau for a session to see how the rest of the state lives.

No way.

Default Reality

The entire state has lunched off Las Vegas for decades. Enough.

The scam worked by a collection of the rurals, the Reno area and the Republicans in Clark County.

No more at this point. So where do we go from here.

So now Clark County pulls back its share.

My bag is to move the whole state government south. No reason we should be governed from the boon docks.

So off to the new state capital on the foot hills of the sheep mountains.

LV, not sure that it's a good idea to move the bulk of a state government to the biggest city in that state.

If that were so, the NY govt would leave Albany for NYC which is horribly crowded and expensive. The govt in my home state of MD would move from Annapolis to Baltimore. Where would the PA govt in Harrisburg move to, Philadelphia or Pittsburgh? Would the FL govt move from Tallahassee to Miami? On it would go for many states.

Govt workers are not all that well-paid, sticking them in the high cost cities would create either a hardship or a call to substantially increase their pay.

Sometimes it's good to get out of the big city and let govt be the major industry in a smaller city.

Why put all the eggs in one basket?

I'll take Carson City and the entire Carson Valley over LV any day. I've spent a lot of time in Carson City. Unfortunately, not in recent days but it's still my #1 pick to live in and around.

Here is a great resource regarding public lands, recreation resources and their effect on real estate values, quality of life and local economies. One of the unique resources of Carson City is access to vast public lands, open space and many trail systems all around the city and surrounding mountains.

Carson City made another 'Top Ten' ranked city: https://www.rent.com/blog/least-crow...ies-in-the-us/

"Nevada is so much more than desert landscape and neon-lit casinos, and Carson City reminds us of that. With its snow-capped mountains and proximity to Lake Tahoe, Carson City prides itself on the generations of residents who've called this city home.

There's plenty of hiking, skiing, biking, rafting and more in and around Carson City. And, the semi-arid climate makes it possible to enjoy being outdoors all year round. With minimal rain, and more snow in the mountains than the valley, each season has a lot to offer outdoor enthusiasts.

A rich history, with its own marked walking path, Carson City offers residents a connection to the past that doesn't overtake the culture of today. Renting a one-bedroom apartment here will cost you around $1,412 per month, making all this nature and activity affordably accessible."

.....................

This is in addition to our recent rank of the #1 city to retire to in Nevada:

Carson City Again Honored as Best Place to Retire

“While it’s possible to find a handful of appealing retirement cities in every state, there are a select few that stand out from the rest for the exceptional quality of life they offer retirees. These cities strike the perfect balance between affordability, safety, and healthcare accessibility.”

@Chris. You really need to stop this. I'm telling you right now. If you continue this sort of behavior, people will come and destroy the beautiful area of the Carson Valley. Just stop! LOL

BTW, Congrats to Carson City for being a place where people want to retire.

The Sun Cities of Las Vegas handle more retirees than all of Carson City. When you shake it down Carson City exists only due to the state government.

20 years or so ago a group of us looked at establishing a residence in the Carson City area. Was no contest. Carson City had no support which went to Minden and Gardnerville. Much nicer places than Carson City unless you worked for the state government.

Thanks, Mars!

I just like helping people find information they need. I’ve lived in this area most of my life and know it’s a special place.

Each of us has their own list of amenities they desire in a location/city to live in. Here is more information on Carson City:

Good for Las Vegas. There are plenty who will like that life and others don't. Doesn't mean that Carson City is bad. In fact many would prefer it over Las Vegas, me included but it's good you love it so much. Now that you've found paradise after escaping California, you can live out the rest of your years in complete and utter bliss. But please, stop trashing Carson City, especially when you don't even live there. It's not very becoming. As a matter of fact, it's very petty.
