Sounds like a plan. One-way bus tickets to Kansas.

Rent has gone up quite a bit in Northern Nevada...Reno seems overpriced to me. I own a rental property 3/2/2 single family with garage and nice neighborhood that is renting for $1350 in Carson City, but it's under market with a long term tenant. I think it would be rented at $1600 now if I had to use a property manager....

Northern Nevada has had a bunch of manufacturing and tech companies move in and they are paying pretty decent wages...fighting for good employees at times, so natural competition is raising the wages here....there seems to be a bit of a housing boom now also so maybe it will even out the pricing for rentals..

Insert the old joke:

Q: "How many psychiatrists does it take to screw in a light bulb?"

A: "Only one, but the light bulb has to want to change."

I suspect the first step is actually getting the homeless to want to change.

John, 46k for a family of 4 is poverty level here. Yes I have kept up. A old house that is 1400 sq ft costs 330k.

I don’t see how you have credibility here. So ok, rents are up. What’s that mean for a 2 bd/1ba apartment in Reno? $1400/mo?

On $46k a year a family of four doesn’t pay any federal income tax and in fact gets a tiny amount back in the EIC, nor does Nevada have a state tax. I’m at a loss to explain how that is anywhere close to a poverty level income.

If both parents work do you have any idea what daycare costs? Now a retired couple on that income with no mortgage and no kids will be fine.

Can't afford kids? Don't have them.
If daycare is more than one partner makes then stay home.
If you need more money obtain new more valuable skills.

Ironically, I -- a liberal Democrat -- actually agree with you 100%!

This is why I support Planned Parenthood and job training/job programs.

It's also why I support our law here in California that allows the state to provide abortion assistance to low-income women who already use social services.
