I’m at a loss to explain how that is anywhere close to a poverty level income.
'Poverty Level' means different things to different people and they continually change their definitions. It is a meaningless term unless you say exactly what you mean by it.

Any full time job supports that, and maybe a small part time job helps. Neither are difficult to find unless you are drug addicted.

I’m guessing a room in a house can be had at a few hundred less.
Speaking from experience, 450.00 for a room in a zip code like 89106. Moderately better neighborhood in a nice modern home, possibly 550.00 but expect multiple roommates. (Like 3 to 5 roommates)

650.00 to 800.00? Possibly downtown or Sunrise manor. I have visited properties in blighted areas and still they wanted 870.00 for Cheyenne and North Las Vegas Blvd.

Same story with areas around the base in general. Visited one on Nellis Blvd. and was quite pricey and was constantly approached for smokes or cash. Their selling point was their "Roman bath tubs."

Worth remembering, one homeless person on our streets costs the taxpayers, on a national average, $42,500 a year.

Homeless man has too much to drink, he falls down, hits his head on the sidewalk, and off to the UMC ER he goes, and from there? Hospitalization? Medications? Rehab? All very expensive to taxpayers.

Now if they can add a tax on for tourists to pay for that White Elephant they're building near Russel Rd and I15, they can't add an additional tiny tax to build more homeless shelters?

We need to bring back long term asylums. many of these homeless people have serious mental issues that is augmented with heavy drug use over the years. Then you have people that are alcoholics , people that don't want to work or get help. It's a complex problem that impacts the people that visit/live in in the valley.

We should offer the homeless a choice:

a) stay where you are, or
b) $24,000 dollars per year for 3 years if they voluntarily relocate to, say, American Samoa, US Virgin Islands, US Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico or the like.

After all, if you're going to be homeless, why not be homeless on an Island with great weather 365 days/year?

I believe I heard that on city-data.com, for the calendar year 2019, 61.7% of stats and numbers were made up. Not sure how accurate that is and I can't find the link right now.

Such a simple problem it's easy to fix. Lol. I think most of us have no clue what the answer is but we all agree it's a problem.
