Just came on to say that I'm coming to Vegas in 2 months and I am so excited! I know a lot about Vegas, its been like a second home to me. I come on here and read all the negativity that comes from some residents that live in Vegas but feel good when I see the down-to-earth people that defend their city. I come from Fresno, CA so crime isnt gonna worry me (late 90's rated top 5 in crime per capita in nation...JEEZ!). Plan to start the Radiology program at UNLV and transferring to Macys. I love Vegas and would like to thank all of you that had such wonderful input that I have read (i.e. looking forward to hiking in Red Rock). Heats not a problem cuz I love the heat and Vegas' heat is only about 5 degrees hotter than Fresno but WITHOUT the pollution (and yes we do have pollution...San Joaquin Valley is 3rd in nation for pollution). You have freeways that actually go both east/west and north south on all ends of town which we dont have. Oh and if I feel like doin' something oh say past 10pm I can (almost everything closes around here by 10 except for TGIfridays lol)!!! I should either be living in Venicia on S. Fort Apache or the Resort at Coronado Ranch on S. Jones. So for all those who cant stand Vegas or just want to talk crap about it....try living in Fresno! SEE YA SOON!!!

p.s.--any info on those two apt complexes is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I haven't dealt with Venicia, but I did work with The Resort at Coronado Ranch with their pest control a little over a year ago. Not to many problems there, and the management really took care of the complex and tenants.

Good-Luck on your move!

Cashsimpson,
It's always nice to have more positive thinkers moving here. You will do great here, you have a good outlook on life and you will find Las Vegas isn't as bad as the gloomers think it is. And you'll have more than enough to do when you are bored so you will never get bored.
Good luck on your move here.

We drove through the Central Valley one time and thought we were being poisoned by the air. We quickly rolled our windows up when we noticed that the only people we could see out in the fields were all wearing hazmat suits. I have a friend who came from there and most of her relatives have had to move away to someplace with cleaner air, although it was too late for some of them who got cancer from all the chemicals in the air. I would never drive through there again so I don't blame you for wanting to get away. I saw the documentary on the gangs over there too. Anyone who thinks Las Vegas might be dangerous has never been to Fresno...or Detroit, the murder capital of the U.S. Welcome to a safe haven for a change.

You'll be happy - for all its faults, Las Vegas is a much better place to live than Fresno.

My son relocated, reluctantly, to Vegas for almost 10 years and he says pretty much the same thing. He said he could never come back to live Western NY where the only thing opened past 10 is a Wal-Mart two towns away.

There is only one problem with that statement Buzz. The data show that Fresno IS safer than Las Vegas now. It is even safer than the cities of San Francisco and Sacramento.

It didn't used to be that way but Fresno has cut its crime rate the last few years. The 2007 numbers for Fresno are even lower than the 2006 numbers city-data has.

2006 city-data crime rates (lower is better)
Sacramento 665.9
Las Vegas 571.5
San Francisco 519.9
Fresno 488.2

Working on that too. They've reduced dust particles and now are working on smog.
