Hello all, so I got a job offer from Wynn two weeks ago and I passed the background check and drug test in a week after. They send me pre processing weblink to fill out employment information and I was scheduled to have my processing on Friday and orientation on the following week.

Unfortunately today I got a call from employment center and got informed that my processing and orientation would be canceled due to business demand ( mainly because of the coronaviris, casinos getting less revenue and sales)

They said I might be rescheduled for 2 weeks later, or 3 weeks or more. There is no estimate start date for me.

Should I worry about my offer is secured or not. I went thru multiple interviews and finally got my offer and I truly value this opportunity. Now I don't know what to do...

Just keep calling back every week

Also, consider looking for other jobs. I hear there's going to be exceptionally strong demand in the health care sector.

I think the Vegas tourist business is going to be at a near shutdown until the Covid-19 situation resolves itself. So don't be holding your breath about being able to get a job out there until this happens. I'd be expecting lots of short term layoffs/furlows.

Do you mean demand in general, or are you saying specifically to Las Vegas? If the latter, I’m curious how you came up with that. Perhaps you’re referring to increased demand for healthcare workers due to Covid19 in future months.

thanks for your advice! I did call the department director who interviewed me before to make sure that he knows the postponement of my processing. He told me every casino on the strips freeze the job processings ( which is true since I currently have another job offer from Bellagio and the manager told me the same thing), but he said once everything go back on track the processing would move forward. I hope thats true since I rejected one offer three days ago since I want to focus in the position that Wynn offered, I could never imagine things would come out like this…

That other job probably would have led to the same situation. These are pretty typical at the major Strip operators, they put in a total freeze with exceptions requiring a C-level person's approval to allow for hires that are considered critical to resort operation.

Yes, you are totally right. I don't mind waiting one month or more time, I just hope the job offer is still valid and secured when the situation gets better, I mean I have savings to get me thru a year or so, but I can't lose this job opportunity since it is my dream job.

I was going to write that the situation is new and unclear and might last for quite a while, so keep looking for a job, but then you wrote

Sigh, I feel for you. Nobody saw this coming. Maybe you can find a temporary job or gig work while waiting?

I am the person who sent you the message "sorry" with the sad face since I feel bad for you. I cannot see why you would not still have the job offer once the current crisis is over. We are in a national emergency, so prepare for that now. None of us know how long this will last, so the advice cold warrior gave you is the best solution for the time being. The last thing you want to do is burn through all your savings while you are waiting.

Thanks for your reply, the reason why Im panic because
1. I quited one job when I was in training because Wynn originally told me to start working on 3/24, due to the schedule conflicts I quit the former job.

2. I worry about the job offer still valid after the hard time, since the position I got is specializing in vip services so I'm worried that if business get a big impact they might not get as many VIPs as before so I would lose the job.

3. It is hard to not panic because MGM also announced major layoffs.

I would keep positive and wait patiently, hope everything is going to be ok and I truly hope everyone here in Vegas be safe.
