Las Vegas generates a huge amount of business to the OTAs, you just can't ignore them and certainly can't own them as that goes way out of your core competency as a gaming resort operator. Vacationers do too much price shopping for the resort sites to price much differently, but I have noticed if you sign in and have some status with the big boys the rates you get quoted start getting pretty competitive with OTA prices. The person who is not in the slot club and goes to Vegas infrequently is probably going to get a better rate from an OTA, but that's by design. Customers that the casino side wants will get direct bookings while the OTA fills a lot of rooms at lowest profit that yields dining and entertainment profit and some modest casino spend.

I should have known that. It looks like they use an Oracle system for it.

The real question is do they remove themselves from the aggregators? It would be interesting to see the breakdown between direct bookings and those with the Expedia's of the world.

Rich people don't enjoy Vegas as much as the blue collar guy that rolls out 1-2 times a year and gets to act like a big shot.

I attended a SEMA show a few years back with a buddy. I try to do things on vacation I can't do at home so SEMA was cool, I blew a whole day there but then planned 5-6 other things to do in the few days I was there. We stayed at the Aria, newer hotel near where I wanted to be. Rented a nice room, my buddy on the other hand rented the corner suite that was literally bigger than his house! MR VEGAS has arrived!

I'm not a big gambler, I'm smart enough to realize that I can't wager enough to ever change my life in a big way. Mr Vegas went right to the craps table (a game I've never played). I told him I don't know how to play, he counters with just put your money down and the people will teach you? WHAT? Maybe I should light my money on fire and wait until the fire dept shows me that is wasteful? I didn't play $1 in craps but watched him lose a few hundred. Well that was fun........

In the end, I left Vegas with $3200 of house money, essentially making my whole trip including airfare completely free with a few bucks left over. I sent him a pic of the cash in my hotel room, not a stack of chips on the table still waiting to be lost.

I wouldn't put Vegas, Disney, NYC anywhere on my itinerary in 2020.

I thought you weren't playing. How'd you leave with the house's money?

Every large chain has its own reservation system. I always book directly with Marriott and get loyalty points and pay less than what an aggregator charges. Yes, I always check prices before I book.

I don't play craps..........

Not a big gambler but I have done pretty good when I do gamble at roulette!

Best part of my system, $100-200 to start and when I win I take $100 chips and the change. The striped $100 chips NEVER come back in. I have been known to text whoever I'm with to come take the pile and cash them in while I'm still playing. Makes leaving the table way way easier!

Yes, I usually book with the hotel sites rather then the big independent sites. I used to like it because you could pay one night up front, and they'd then charge you night by night, unlike the independents, who'd charge the whole stay up front. I think that's changed, at least partially.

Probably not much other than branding. It's not uncommon for online retail to operate several different sites that appear to be different companies but are all the same one.

I don't see that it's the casinos' responsibility to support the OTAs business model. If I ran a casino, I wouldn't want them involved as there is literally nothing in it for the casino other than another middleman and reduced profits.

Craps was the safest game in the house before baccarat became a thing. Don't pass line only favors the house by 1.39%. Pass line is 1.41%.
