I predict this coronavirus scourge is going to cut the corporate fat like old school Brooklyn butcher. Considering the casinos have always taken in untold sums of money from gambling me thinks for them to get back trusting tourists to try to take their money they are going to have to drop prices to a shocking retro level. That is tourists that actually still have some disposable income.

also if they're going to have to give you games that are not so stilted
the hold on some of the table games they offer these days is ridiculous not to mention the changes in blackjack payouts

one of the things I miss the most having been a lifelong tourist before I moved here is the difference in the way that the customer is treated

I hate being nickeled and dimed at every turn

Good luck with that. I believe this will lead to even more catering to the well-off after the initial return to "normal." With lower occupancy rates, etc, they will cater to the wealthy to make up for the reduction in people. This will be much like what the airlines have done post 9-11. Make bank on first class and biz class and treat the steerage, well, like steerage.

I hope you're right, but old vegas is gone. Shareholders will do whatever maximizes profits. Less staff, more automation.

Interesting perspective. The return to normal is sounds doubtful to me without the 'return to trust' even for rich people. They do not want to gamble on their health/life like everyone else. I see drastic measures ahead for resort casinos to attract customers. The middle/working class is an ample percentage of Vegas tourists.

Characterizing the "common man" as "steerage" is disgusting.

Guess what? All that hasn't gone yet. Not one of the operators has scaled back their resort fees to this point and none have said anything about reduced or free parking. Some may come later, but if this solution was so easy or obvious, don't you think someone would have done it by now?

The Strip is no longer a primarily gaming operation. Gaming is important but only one of the 3 revenue streams.

Resort fees are used by the casinos to avoid taxes. They will be the last thing to go away.

The physical plants are mostly not suited for low end clientele. And the plants are not going away any time soon.

So we may see some more and even less expensive Casinos. But the Wynn and Bellagio will stay as they are.

Just wait and watch. The fundamental economics of the Strip have not changed.

The virus is a disruption; it is a serious but temporary event and not the death of the business model.

The disruption may last one, two or even three years but a vaccine will allow a return to the business model.

During the disruption the business model may be altered to accommodate the disruption with special offers to attract spending, think "blue light special" or "cash for clunkers" happenings.

If a vaccine does not happen the business model will be in serious trouble, but IMO there will be a vaccine.

After a return to normal the business model will only change when it no longer succeeds to vacuum money from our pockets or new variations on the model are designed and implemented.

It's a greedy business model, cold and heartless, for pulling cash out of people's pockets even though the people know the house has an edge and will get it all if we play long enough. The flashing lights and funny sounds of the slot machines provided enough "entertainment" to keep customers coming back. We went there 90% for the great shows and only played video poker long enough to drink a beer or two.
