I'm moving to Rhodes Ranch in a few weeks. What is the best internet/cable provider in that area?

You can have Cox, CenturyLink or LV.net. CenturyLink has very bad customer service, but you might be willing to put up with that if you live in one of the few areas where they provide internet over fiber. LV.net is very slow. Cox is the best provider for almost everyone.

Not to derail the OPs thread, but I saw this on Nextdoor:

https://www.welink.com/

Apparently they are doing "wireless fiber" (aka: wireless). My neighbor posted he was getting 300mbps down and 100mbps up. Cost is ~$68/month, but I believe there is a 5 year contract due to them subsidizing hardware costs for the installation.

5 year contract? A lot can change in 5 years, like 5g arriving.

Just call Cox and renegotiate - it’s a game we all play with any provider. Threaten to switch services or say you’ve seen a better offer elsewhere or just be honest and tell them you need a discount ha ha.

I’m excited by Cox fiber, I’ve used fiber before living downtown and being able to have that again is a huge quality of life upgrade.

Cox knows the game and while they will negotiate a bit, it's typically not very much. They know based on your address which other providers offer services and at what speeds. Reality is there really is no competition in many areas and Cox knows it.

I call every year and do the song and dance and pretty much get $10 off per month, that's it.

really no choice, what everyone is saying is true. Cox is the only game in town for internet.

We tried every which way with all services, TV, and Internet and Phone to get bills down to a manageable expense.

The negotiations do work. It’s just a PITA to deal with every year. For us we ended up with Cox for internet, Dish for TV and I forget the phone provider, my wife keeps the landline for faxing.

Still I think our total monthly for all services is $250 a month.

$100 to Cox
$122 to dish
$20 for landline.

HTH-YMMV

Go to both Cox and Centurylink and type in your new address at RR. It will show you rates and speeds available. Cox has faster speeds than Centurylink and both are mostly reliable but centurylink is stingy with discounts.

Cox also has some new prepaid service for internet, kinda like a prepaid cell phone. It's $50 total for 25Mbps.
