Hi,

Anyone moved/relocated from Dallas,TX to Las Vegas area?
What are your thoughts? Are you liking it or is it recommended?
Especially for IT consultant would you recommend moving from Dallas to Las Vegas?

Are you keeping your job or looking for something new here? What is your field of consulting (software dev, ERP implementation, database, etc.)?

Overall the IT field is tolerable but weak here and dominated by gaming companies.

I am not changing my job ... I am in to ERP implementation... but I travel every week to my client site (fly out Monday - Flay in Thursday) which could differ from assignment to assignment ... so not really a same place of work for me. I just need to be closer to a airport with good connectivity to the rest of the US states.

Las Vegas should be good for you. The airport is easy to get into/out of. Basically you just need to look at lifestyle considerations. I've only been to Dallas a few times so I can't really compare. No waffle house here

Do you have children? If so, be prepared to pay for private school. Housing costs might be equal or slightly higher here than compared to Dallas.

There is more career opportunity in Dallas than here, so if you plan on changing jobs - stick with Dallas.

I can live anywhere and I chose Las Vegas. I like the dry heat. Also, I can drive to the airport, park, and walk inside Terminal 1 in about 15-20 minutes. (I do fly early when the traffic is lightest.)

The top out of state destinations for graduates of my large VA university were San Diego and DFW. There was a huge difference in how long they stayed. Obviously, much better opportunities in DFW. Quite a few in business and IT.

I am from Dallas but moved from the Texas Hill Country to Vegas. I'm retired, so job-wise not sure. You said you travel for work, McCarran is an easy airport and very nice.
I guess it depends on what you are looking for in a home base. I have traveled and lived all over, and I would always end up back in Texas, but I don't think it will happen this time, Vegas is home.
When I first visited Vegas in 2012, I knew I was going to hate it, I did it for my spouse and our 20th Aniv. Instead, I fell in love and three years later after moving here, I love it even more, even with the lockdown, but that is me. Some people hate, some people love it.

Yes.... I have two school going kids...and the education is definitely one of the criteria. I don't think I am prepared to pay for Private schools ! That would definitely be a deal breaker if education scene is that bad ....
